Composition of the preparation, release form

Has two dosage forms - 0.3% eye ointment and 0.3% drops. The main component is ofloxacin. Additional components of the liquid product:
    benzalkonium chloride;
    sodium chloride;
    purified water;
    sodium hydroxide solution;
    hydrochloric acid solution.
The carton contains a dropper bottle with 5 ml of light yellow product and instructions. Additional components of the ointment: paraffin, white petroleum jelly, wool fat.

Mode of application

Floxal in the form of drops is prescribed one drop in the lower conjunctival sac of the diseased eye up to 4 times a day, no longer than 14 days. When using other drugs in parallel, it is necessary to adhere to an interval of 5-10 minutes. A medication in the form of an ointment is placed behind the lower eyelid in the form of a strip of 1.5 cm up to 3 times a day, no longer than 2 weeks. In case of infection caused by chlamydia, the number of procedures per day is increased to 5.

Application in children

The remedy is safe for children, so doctors prescribe it from the first days of life. Floxal practically does not penetrate the bloodstream, its toxicity for the child's body is minimized. There is no special form for babies, so a standard preparation is used. The number of procedures per day and the duration of treatment can only be determined by a doctor, depending on the pathology, pathogen and severity of the disease.

Use during pregnancy

According to the instructions, the medication is not recommended for pregnant women and women during breastfeeding, although there is no data on the negative effects of Floxal on the fetus. If during lactation the use of the drug is necessary and it cannot be replaced, then breastfeeding is stopped for the duration of treatment. To maintain lactation, milk is expressed. Resume feeding after drug withdrawal.

Reviews for use in children

Olga, 31 years old
Until my daughter went to kindergarten, except for a cold, she was not sick with anything. After 3 days, as she went to the garden, her eye turned red and began to water. At night I washed him with herbs, and in the morning he blushed even more and began to hurt. The optometrist prescribed Floxal in the form of drops. We used it for 5 days, and all the symptoms disappeared, so I am satisfied with the drug. The drops helped me from the barley on the eye. The only negative is that it cannot be stored for a long time, only a month and a half.

After discharge from the hospital, the baby's eyes began to turn sour. The doctor recommended Floxal. I read the instructions and it turned out to be an antibiotic. At first I was afraid to use them, because my son is still very small and he already needs to drip an antibiotic. But the doctor reassured me, said that the drug is effective and safe for children and has no systemic effect. First, I dripped 1 drop for myself - there was no burning sensation, then for the child. After application, I was satisfied, since the inflammation disappeared in 2 days. And the baby did not even cry when it dripped, which means that he did not have any unpleasant sensations.

Pharmacology

Floxal eye drops and ointment have a detrimental effect on gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria:
    shigella;
    colibacillus;
    neisseria;
    chlamydia;
    klebsiella;
    enterobacteria;
    staphylococci;
    morganella;
    streptococci;
    enterococci;
    proteas;
    shigella.
The agent is not active against anaerobic flora, which multiplies in the absence of oxygen. After application, Floxal is evenly distributed over the mucous membrane of the eye, providing a local therapeutic effect. The level of the drug in the blood is minimal, therefore it does not have a harmful effect on the internal organs.

Indications and restrictions for use

Ophthalmologists prescribe a medication for inflammatory and infectious diseases of the organs of vision, which are caused by flora sensitive to the drug. Indications:
    keratitis;
    eye infection caused by chlamydia;
    blepharitis;
    conjunctivitis;
    barley;
    dacryocystitis;
    ulcerative lesion of the cornea.
The remedy is indicated for prophylactic purposes after injuries, burns, eye surgeries and the development of infection against the background of eye demodicosis (lesion by micro mites).
    The medication is contraindicated in case of intolerance to the components of Floxal, the period of gestation and lactation.

Special instructions

If no positive dynamics is observed during the time of use specified in the instructions, treatment with Floxal is stopped and the drug is replaced with a similar one in action. To select it, it is necessary to pass an analysis of the separated fluid from the eye for culture, and after determining the pathogen, select a medication.
The drug is not used for more than 2 weeks, as this can lead to infections of a fungal nature and the development of resistance of the pathogenic flora to antibiotics. Components may cause eye irritation and sensitization to sunlight. Therefore, if the treatment is carried out in the summer, it is necessary to wear sunglasses until the end of the course of treatment.
For the period of treatment of inflammatory eye diseases, ophthalmologists do not recommend wearing lenses. If after 2-3 days the symptoms of pathology have disappeared, the use is continued in full until the end of the course of treatment. This is necessary in order to finally destroy the pathogen.
After the ointment, vision temporarily worsens (objects blur), therefore, you should stop driving for the period of treatment.

Interaction with other drugs

Floxal is not used concurrently with other antibacterial agents for the eyes. If they are necessary, then after using the first medicine, they maintain an interval of 5-10 minutes, and then apply another. When prescribing drops and ointments, drops are first instilled, and after 5 minutes the ointment is applied.
Simultaneous administration of tablet forms of antimicrobial drugs of the fluoroquinolone group with drops leads to an increase in the therapeutic effect of Floxal. Such treatment is necessary in the case of severe eye disease and complications after surgery on the organs of vision. The interaction of Floxal with drugs from other groups has not been studied.

Overdose and side effects

Side effects are often associated with intolerance to the constituent components. Symptoms: redness of the eyes, watery eyes, itching, burning sensation, increased photosensitivity. Some patients report discomfort and a foreign body sensation in the eyes.
In extremely rare cases, dizziness and an allergic reaction are possible, manifested by a skin rash or hives. With local application, overdose symptoms are not observed, since the agent has no systemic effect on the body.

Conditions, storage periods

The drug is stored in a dark place with a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C. Children should not have access to the medication to prevent accidental drinking. The medicine in the form of an ointment and drops retains its medicinal properties for 3 years. After opening a tube of ointment or a bottle of drops, they must be used within 6 weeks. After the expiration of the period, the drug is disposed of.

Last year I got a bad cold, and barley appeared on my eye. There was no way to go to the doctor, so, on the recommendation of the pharmacist, I bought Floxal ointment at the pharmacy. I laid it at night. In the morning it was already easier, and after 3 days I completely forgot about barley.

I very often get conjunctivitis, just open the window in the car and in the evening the eye turns red and hurts. Therefore, I have known Floxal for a long time. I bought it in drops and in the form of an ointment. I stopped on drops, since it is inconvenient for me personally to apply the ointment, and the drops have a dispenser and help very quickly.

Everyone in our family began to use Floxal. The first time it was bought by appointment of an ophthalmologist, when the child's lacrimal canal became inflamed. Then my wife had conjunctivitis, and without examining the ophthalmologist, she herself began to drip the drug according to the instructions. In 2 days the conjunctivitis was gone. And with his help I got rid of the barley on the eye.

Wood chips got into the eye at work. There was no time to go to the doctor, so when I came home from work at home, I just washed my eyes with chamomile. In the morning, I could hardly open my eye, as it was very painful and was stuck together with some kind of liquid. I had to go to the doctor, it turned out to be inflammation, they prescribed ointment and eye drops immediately. After three days, all the symptoms disappeared, there was no discomfort when applied.
