Composition, release form

The bactericidal substance picloxidine dihydrochloride (500 μg) is an active component of Vitabact ophthalmic drops. The additional ingredients are:
    emulsifier - polysorbate 80;
    natural monosaccharide - dextrose (anhydrous);
    purified water.
Eye drops Vitabact for newborns, children and adults are a liquid colorless solution for topical use. Packaged in plastic transparent dropper bottles with a volume of 10 ml. Each carton contains 1 tube of solution and detailed instructions for use.

Pharmachologic effect

The active ingredient picloxidine gives the drug a powerful antiseptic and disinfectant effect. Due to this, the antimicrobial effect of Vitabact eye drops is manifested. They are active against most gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria:
    streptococci (Latin Streptococcus);
    staphylococci (Latin Staphylococcaceae);
    shigella (lat. Shigella);
    chlamydia (lat.Clamydia), etc.
Some pathogenic viruses and fungi are sensitive to the drug. The antiseptic destroys the bacterial cell membrane, leading to their death.
Systemic absorption is extremely low when applied topically.

Indications for use

According to the instructions for use, Vitabact drops are used for the treatment and prevention of a number of ophthalmic diseases. These include:
    conjunctivitis - inflammation of the conjunctivitis;
    keratitis - inflammation of the cornea;
    blepharitis - inflammation of the edges of the eyelids;
    keratoconjunctivitis - simultaneous inflammation of the cornea and conjunctiva;
    trachoma - inflammation caused by chlamydia;
    dacryocystitis - violation of the patency of the lacrimal canal (mainly in newborns);
    various eye injuries.
An ophthalmic agent is indicated after operations on the organ of vision to prevent complications, infectious inflammation.

Instructions for use

It is better to entrust the selection of dosage and duration of therapy to an ophthalmologist. Usually, the severity of the pathology, the presence of complications, the individual characteristics of the organism and the age of the patient are taken into account. For children and newborns, Vitabact drops should be prescribed only by a specialist.
At the time of the acute phase of the disease, 6 drops are prescribed, as the condition improves, the frequency of receptions is reduced to two or three. The duration of therapy is 7-10 days. If during this period the signs of the disease do not stop, then it is necessary to consult your doctor. He will adjust the dosage or select a new remedy.
After surgery, to prevent complications of an infectious or bacterial nature, 1-2 drops are prescribed up to 3 times per knock. Duration of application is 3 days. Sometimes the medicine is instilled just before the operation. In direct contact with a person who is sick with keratitis or conjunctivitis, instill 1-2 drops once in each eye.
Hands are thoroughly washed before the procedure. If purulent discharge from the eyes is observed on the eyelashes and eyelids, then they should be removed with a cotton swab dipped in an antiseptic. Contraindications

Individual intolerance to the components of the ophthalmic solution is the only direct contraindication. There are no other restrictions on use in the instructions.

Side effects, overdose

Drops when applied topically are well tolerated by patients. Undesirable consequences can occur only in rare cases. Feeling of discomfort, burning, redness, hyperemia of the mucous membrane of the eye are reactions that go away on their own in a few minutes after the procedure and do not require therapy.
The absence of side effects allows the use of Vitabact drops for the treatment of newborns.
Overdose cases have not been identified. If you accidentally swallow an ophthalmic solution, you need to take any sorbent and call an ambulance.

Drug interactions

There are no restrictions on the use of Vitabact drops with other drugs. The combination for the treatment of different groups of drugs does not lead to any significant interaction.
If the therapy includes the use of several topical medications for the eyes, then it is necessary to withstand at least 15 minutes between instilling other ophthalmic drops.

General recommendations
