Composition, release form

The topical preparation is not an antibiotic, but it has antibacterial properties. It is a 0.01% odorless transparent liquid. The medicinal solution is packaged in polyethylene bottles (10 ml). Each carton comes with a dropper cap and detailed instructions.
The drug compound benzyldimethyl is the active substance of Okomistin drops. Sodium chloride, purified water are additional ingredients in the composition of the medication.

Operating principle

Benzyldimethyl is a powerful antiseptic that is active against most pathogenic microorganisms. The therapeutic effect of the medicinal solution is based on the hydrophobic property of the main component. Benzyldimethyl penetrates into the microorganism, destroying its membrane. As a result, its activity decreases, which leads to subsequent death.
Okomistin is used to treat pathologies of the ears, nose and organ of vision, the appearance of which was provoked by chlamydia, staphylococcus, adenoviruses, fungi, herpes viruses and other gram-positive or gram-negative bacteria.
In addition, Okomistin drops have a regenerating, anti-inflammatory, minor immunomodulatory effect. The drug has a high selective activity. When applied topically, the ophthalmic solution is not absorbed through the skin and mucous membranes.

Indications for use

Okomistin is used for eye diseases accompanied by infectious processes. Acute and chronic conjunctivitis, blepharoconjunctivitis, keratitis, keratouveitis are ophthalmic diseases for which a medicine is often prescribed. Eye injuries and burns (chemical, thermal) are another indication for use. The drug is used for the prevention of purulent-inflammatory consequences after an ophthalmic operation and in preparation for a surgical intervention.
In otorhinolaryngology, they are used in complex treatment:
    acute sinusitis / rhinosinusitis, exacerbation of chronic sinusitis / rhinosinusitis, acute rhinitis;
    chronic and acute otitis externa, chronic purulent mesotympanitis, otomycosis.
The drops are often prescribed concurrently with topical antibiotics to enhance the antibacterial effect.

Contraindications, side effects

Sensitivity to the components of the drug is the main contraindication to the use of the drug. Allergic reaction (slight burning sensation, discomfort) is the main side effect of Okomistin. As a rule, such discomfort goes away on its own within 15-20 seconds.
If necessary, consult a doctor.

Conjunctivitis is a common problem that appears at the most inopportune moment. Recently I have been using Okomistin drops at the first discomfort (itching, burning, lacrimation). The primary symptoms disappear very quickly, and the disease does not develop further. I have only positive feedback. Affordable price is another plus.

I always wear lenses, so sometimes I come across conjunctivitis. The doctor recommended Okomistin drops, calling them the best for treatment. Indeed, improvements are noticeable immediately after the first instillation. Full recovery occurs in a week. They turned out to be the most effective for me. I recommend! Advice - it is better to refuse to wear contact lenses during treatment.
