Taustin is an ophthalmic drug that activates and enhances regeneration processes.

Release form and composition

Dosage form - eye drops 4%: transparent, colorless liquid (0.4 or 1 ml each in a tube-dropper made of polyethylene or polypropylene, in a cardboard box instructions for the use of Taustin and 10 or 20 tube-droppers / 2 or 4 foil bags films with 5 dropper tubes / 1 or 2 bags with 10 dropper tubes; 5 or 10 ml in multi-dose vials equipped with a dropper, in a cardboard box, instructions for the preparation and 1-3 bottles or 1 bottle in a foil film bag).
Composition of the preparation per 1 ml:
    active substance: taurine - 40 mg;
    auxiliary components: methyl parahydroxybenzoate, water for injection, 0.25M hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide solution.

Pharmacodynamics

Taustin's active ingredient is taurine, a sulfur-containing amino acid that is formed in the body during the conversion of cysteine.
Taurine, when used in ophthalmology, has anti-cataract and metabolic effects. In dystrophic diseases and pathologies accompanied by an acute disturbance of the metabolism of the eye tissues, it stimulates reparative and regenerative processes.
The drug also normalizes the functions of cell membranes, activates energy and metabolic processes. Due to the accumulation of potassium and calcium, it preserves the electrolyte composition of the cytoplasm. Improves the conditions for the conduction of nerve impulses.

Pharmacokinetics

When Taustin is instilled into the conjunctival sac of the eye, the systemic absorption of taurine is low.

Indications for use

Taustin is used in the complex therapy of the following diseases:
    corneal trauma (to stimulate repair processes);
    primary open-angle glaucoma (in order to improve the outflow of intraocular fluid, in combination with β-blockers);
    degenerative diseases of the cornea;
    traumatic, diabetic, senile and radiation cataracts.

Contraindications

Taustin is contraindicated in patients under the age of 18 and in persons with known hypersensitivity to any component of the eye drops.
The ophthalmic agent should be used with caution during pregnancy and lactation.

Instructions for use: method and dosage

The eye drops are applied topically in the form of instillations into the conjunctival sac.
Recommended dosages:
    degenerative diseases and traumatic lesions of the cornea: 1–2 drops 2–4 times a day for 1 month;
    open-angle glaucoma: 1–2 drops 2 times a day, 15–20 minutes before the use of a local β-blocker, in courses of 6 weeks, followed by cancellation for 2 weeks;
    cataract: 1-2 drops 2-4 times a day for 3 months, after a 1 month break the course is repeated.
Application of Taustin drops in a dropper tube:
    Separate one tube, put the rest back in the package.
    After making sure that the solution is at the bottom of the tube, open it by turning it in a rotating motion and detaching the valve;
    Drop the drug into the eyes at the prescribed dose.
    Close the tube with a valve.
Application of Taustin drops in a bottle:
    Open the bottle with a counterclockwise rotating motion. Remove the cap.
    Gently, without touching the tip with your fingers, turn the bottle over and fix it between the index and thumb of one hand.
    Tilt your head back and pull the lower eyelid down with the index finger of your other hand.
    Place the tip of the bottle over the eye and, slightly pressing on the bottle, drip the required dose of the drug into the conjunctival sac. Avoid contact of the tip of the bottle with hands and the surface of the eye.
    Close the bottle with a cap.

Side effects

With hypersensitivity, Taustin may cause allergic reactions.

Overdose

There have been no reports of drug overdose cases.

Special instructions

Do not use the drug in case of visible damage to the vial.
The preservative in the eye drops can irritate the eyes of patients wearing contact lenses. In this regard, they should be removed before instillation of the drug and put on at least 15 minutes after eye instillation.
With the simultaneous appointment of other ophthalmic agents, it is necessary to observe intervals of at least 10 minutes between their uses.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

Taustin does not adversely affect the clarity of visual perception and the speed of psychomotor reactions.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

Taustin during pregnancy and lactation can be prescribed in cases where the expected benefit to the woman outweighs the possible risk to the fetus / child.

Childhood use

Taustin eye drops are not prescribed for the treatment of patients under 18 years of age.

Use in the elderly

The drug can be used to treat elderly patients (including senile cataracts). No dosage adjustment is required.

Drug interactions

With open-angle glaucoma, Taustin significantly increases the hypotensive effect of β-blockers (for example, butylaminohydroxypropoxyphenoxymethyl methyloxadiazole, timolol maleate). Strengthening the action is achieved by increasing the coefficient of ease of taurine outflow of aqueous humor and reducing its production.

Terms and conditions of storage

Keep out of the reach of children at a temperature not exceeding 25 ° C.
The shelf life is 3 years.
  After the first opening, the bottle / tube is stored for 1 month.
