Form, composition of the medication

Drops DuoTrav (DuoTrav) are developed on two active ingredients - travopost and timolol. It is their action that is aimed at reducing the level of intraocular pressure. The composition includes several excipients:
    orthoboric acid;
    propylene glycol;
    polyquad;
    polyethylene glycol;
    sodium chloride;
    mannitol;
    purified water.
To give the necessary acidity to the drops, the composition includes hydrochloric acid or sodium hydroxide.
DuoTrav is a sterile transparent solution without a pronounced odor and color. The drug is packaged in special white polypropylene dropper bottles. The volume of the bottle is 2.5 ml. The branded cardboard box contains 1 or 3 tubes of medicinal solution. Each bottle is in an individual foil pack. An instruction with all the characteristics is attached to the medicine.

Healing properties

Eye drops DuoTrav - combined antiglaucoma remedy. The therapeutic effect is achieved due to the properties of the active substances:
    Timolol is a non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker without sympathomimetic activity. The main task of the substance is to moderately reduce the production of fluid inside the eye and promote its discharge.
    Travopost is a synthetic analogue of prostaglandin P2-alpha. It relieves eye pressure by draining (draining) aqueous humor.
This combination of components with a pronounced decrease in IOP provides a powerful and long-lasting effect. A decrease in intraocular pressure is recorded 120 minutes after instillation, reaching a maximum after 10-12 hours. The healing properties persist for a day.
The absorption of active substances is negligible. The amount of travoposta in blood plasma is clinically insignificant. The detection threshold for timolol is maintained for 12 hours. Both synthetic components are mainly excreted by the kidneys along with urine.

Indications and contraindications for use

Glaucoma is the only direct indication for the appointment of DuoTrav drops. Usually they are prescribed to persons who do not have a therapeutic effect from the use of other local anti-glaucoma drugs. There are times when the drug is strictly forbidden to use to reduce intraocular pressure. The list of contraindications includes the following conditions:
    high sensitivity to beta-blockers and sympathomimetics;
    pathology of the bronchi and lungs, including bronchial asthma;
    individual intolerance to any components;
    cardiovascular diseases;
    bradycardia (slowing heart rate);
    renal, hepatic, cardiac insufficiency;
    sick sinus syndrome;
    seasonal exacerbation of allergies;
    dystrophic changes in the cornea;
    period of bearing a child;
    period of breastfeeding;
    age under 18.
Iritis, uveitis, congenital and angle-closure glaucoma, rupture of the posterior part of the lens, the likelihood of macular edema, inflammation of the organ of vision, diabetes mellitus, hyperthyroidism, angina pectoris are conditions in which an ophthalmic agent is prescribed with caution. Such patients require monitoring of therapy.

Method of use, dosage

Since DuoTrav has a long-term effect, they are used strictly 1 time per day. Instill one drop into each conjunctivitis sac. It is preferable to carry out instillation in the morning, trying to perform the procedure at the same time.
To reduce the penetration of the components of the solution into the systemic circulation, after instillation, it is recommended to lightly press the nasolacrimal canal located in the corners of the eyes with the fingertips.

Side effects

First of all, undesirable consequences manifest themselves on the part of the organ of vision. A person may be bothered by itching, burning, redness, pain, irritation of the organ of vision, dry eye syndrome, changes in the cornea, eyelid dermatitis. Very often, a change in the length and color of eyelashes, increased lacrimation, photophobia is recorded. Allergic conjunctivitis develops when you are allergic to components.
The following systemic side effects sometimes appear:
    increased sleepiness;
    sleep disturbance;
    dizziness;
    headache;
    depressive state;
    feeling anxious;
    muscle and joint pain;
    heart failure;
    dyspnea;
    noise in ears;
    pain in the chest area;
    allergic rhinitis;
    cardiopalmus;
    rash, hives, and other skin reactions;
    decreased libido;
    cough, bronchospasm.
This number of side effects is due to the presence of two active components in the composition of the drops, each of which has its own list of consequences.

Overdose

The toxic effect of DuoTrav drops was not revealed during the studies, therefore, an overdose does not occur if the dosage regimen is observed. It is possible if the rules for using the eye remedy are not followed. Then there is a risk of side effects and their persistent manifestation. In this case, you need to contact your doctor. Most likely, he will cancel the drug and pick up a new medication. The worst consequence is cardiac arrest.
If the solution somehow got inside, it is necessary to induce vomiting, drink any sorbent. See a doctor, you may need follow-up treatment in an inpatient setting.

Special conditions, interaction

Before starting therapy, you should familiarize yourself with some restrictions that must be taken into account. These include:
    Before starting to use DuoTrav, patients are warned about the risk of discoloration of the eyelashes (including length, pigmentation, thickness), as well as eye color during therapy, especially if the treatment concerns only one eye.
    If the next dose of DuoTrav drops is missed, the treatment is continued at the set time the next day.
    Before starting therapy, cardiovascular pathologies, liver and kidney diseases should be excluded. No dosage adjustment is required for elderly patients.
    In case of respiratory failure, drops should be used carefully. Such patients are under constant medical attention.
    The ophthalmic device is removed before instillation. You can put on contact lenses 15-20 minutes after the procedure.
    Persons who experience a temporary decrease in visual acuity after instillation should refrain from driving and engaging in potentially hazardous work. You need to take action after full restoration of vision.
    Do not touch any surfaces with the tip of the dropper bottle, in order to avoid contamination of the nozzle and the contents of the bottle. After each use of the drug, it must be tightly closed.
    The interval between the use of local ophthalmic agents should be at least 15 minutes.
Studies on the interaction of DuoTrav drops have not been carried out. But experts do not recommend their patients to use an eye remedy, combining with calcium channel blockers, beta-blockers, cardiac glycosides, parasympathomimetics, amiodarone.

Additional information

The shelf life of a closed bottle of DuoTrav drops is 24 months, after opening the product must be used within a month. Then the drug is disposed of. Store the bottle with the solution in the original package in a place where direct sunlight does not fall. The storage temperature should not exceed 25 ° C. Freezing the product is prohibited. The access of children and animals to pharmaceutical medicine is necessarily limited.
