Guttalax is a drug with a laxative effect and stimulates intestinal motility.
The drug is available in the form of tablets. The tablets have a round, cylindrical shape, are painted white and odorless. Packed in polypropylene tubes of 20 or 50 pieces.

Composition and pharmacological action of Guttalax

The main active ingredient of the laxative is sodium picosulfate monohydrate. Additionally, both dosage forms contain auxiliary compounds.
The composition of the tablets contains:
    magnesium stearate;
    lactose monohydrate;
    silicon dioxide colloidal;
    corn starch;
    Hydrolyzed potato starch.
Sodium picosulfate is a laxative from the triarylmethane group.
As a local laxative, the active active compound of the drug undergoes cleavage under the action of bacteria in the large intestine, providing a stimulating effect on the mucous membrane of the large intestine, and cleavage products activate its peristalsis. Under the influence of sodium picosulfate, the accumulation of electrolytes and water in the large intestine of the gastrointestinal tract is provided, which helps to stimulate the bowel movement, soften the stool and reduce the time of its evacuation.
The active component of Guttalax effectively acts on the body at the level of the colon, which enhances the natural process of discharge of feces from the lower parts of the gastrointestinal tract. The drug does not affect the absorption and digestion of food consumed in the small intestine.
The absorption of sodium picosulfate in the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract is at an insignificant level. The active component is completely metabolized by cells of the tissues of the liver and intestinal wall, while the formation of pharmacologically inactive glucuronide occurs.
After ingestion, the drug enters the large intestine, in the distal colon of sodium, picosulfate breaks down with the formation of the active metabolite - bis- (p-hydroxyphenyl) -pyridyl-2-methane. The period of development of the laxative effect depends on the release rate of the active metabolite and most often varies in the range from 6 to 12 hours after taking the laxative.
The active compound enters the systemic circulation in a small amount. Excretion of the drug received into the bloodstream is carried out using the kidneys in the urine in the form of glucuronide for 48 hours.
