Sodium picosulfate does not affect a person's ability to drive a car and perform work that requires a speed of psychophysical reactions.

Drug interactions

Slabilen may increase the patient's sensitivity to cardiac glycosides.
Broad-spectrum antimicrobial agents reduce the effect of sodium picosulfate.
With the simultaneous use of diuretics and glucocorticosteroids, the likelihood of developing electrolyte disturbances increases.

Pharmacological activity

Slabilen is a drug with a laxative effect. The therapeutic effect of the active pharmaceutical ingredient, sodium picosulfate, begins after hydrolization (decomposition) in the intestinal microflora.
The walls of the colon are irritated, peristaltic movements progress, which favors the further advancement of fecal masses. The result from taking the medication is expected in 10 to 12 hours.
Moreover, water-electrolyte supply decreases, therefore, the contraction of the colon walls is accelerated, which also contributes to the speedy excretion of the contents.

Application in children

Children under 4 years of age Slabilen is prohibited.
From the age of four, it is allowed to use the drug in liquid form - 5-8 drops per dose.
The tablets are recommended for children over 10 years old only.
The maximum daily dose for a child is 15 drops.
The use of Slabilen must be agreed with the pediatrician.
The microflora of children is somewhat different from that of adults. They have not yet formed a sufficient amount of enzymes capable of breaking down substances entering the interior. Therefore, the use of Slabilen in children does not give such a strong effect as in adults.
