Dosage form and composition
Ambrobene is made in the form of a solution for inhalation using special inhalers. This makes it possible for the active substance of the drug to penetrate well into the bronchi and lungs, where it has a therapeutic effect. The main active ingredient is ambroxol, which belongs to the group of expectorant drugs (mucolytics). Its concentration in the solution is 7.5 mg / ml. Excipients and their concentration in 1 ml of solution:
Potassium Sorbate - 1 mg.
Hydrochloric acid - 0.6 mg.
Purified water - 991.9 mg.
In quantitative terms, there are 2 types of Ambrobene solution - 40 and 100 ml. The bottles are made of dark glass to prevent the destruction of the active substance under the influence of light. The kit includes a measuring cup, which ensures ease of dosage during its use.
Pharmacological action of the drug
The therapeutic effect of Ambrobene inhalation solution is provided by the main active substance - Ambroxol. It belongs to the pharmacological group of expectorant drugs (mucolytics) and has several effects, which include:
Secretomotor action - increased activity of the ciliated epithelium lining the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract (trachea, bronchi and alveoli). At the same time, the activity of the movements of the cilia lining the surface of the cells is enhanced, due to which the excretion of sputum is accelerated - an improvement in mucociliary clearance.
The secretolytic effect - Ambroxol stimulates the production of enzymes that destroy the intramolecular bonds of mucopolysaccharides of sputum, due to which it becomes less dense. This facilitates its removal from the respiratory tract. Ambroxol also enhances the activity of cells that produce more liquid sputum (serous cells).
All these effects contribute to expectoration of sputum. Cough gradually becomes wet. Bacteria or other foreign agents that cause inflammation of the bronchial mucosa, bronchioles and cough develop with phlegm. The expectorant effect of Ambroxol occurs within 10 minutes after inhalation of the solution and lasts about 8-10 hours. After ingestion, Ambroxol is metabolized to cookies with the formation of metabolic products that are excreted by the kidneys. The half-life (elimination of 50% of the initial concentration of the drug in the body) is 6-12 hours. The active substance of the solution for inhalation passes into breast milk, which must be considered when breastfeeding.
Indications for use
The use of Ambrobene solution is indicated to improve the removal of sputum from the respiratory tract in diseases accompanied by an inflammatory process in them and an accumulation of viscous sputum. These include:
Acute or chronic infectious bronchitis - inflammation of the bronchial mucosa caused by bacteria or viruses, which is accompanied by coughing and secretion of viscous sputum.
Bronchiectatic disease is a chronic pathology of the bronchi with the formation of extensions in the bronchial tree, impaired external respiration, the accumulation of thick sputum and secondary infection.
Bronchial asthma is an allergic reaction of the respiratory system, accompanied by a spasm (narrowing) of the bronchi and secretion of a large amount of viscous sputum.
Pneumonia - pneumonia of an infectious etiology.
Chronic obstructive bronchitis is a prolonged inflammation of the bronchi caused by the toxic effects of various chemical compounds, in particular long-term smoking.
Tracheitis is an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the trachea of any etiology.
Cystic fibrosis is a severe hereditary pathology in which sputum synthesis is impaired, it is produced very viscous and constantly accumulates in the respiratory tract.
The drug is undesirable to use in combination with antitussive agents, which reduce the severity of the cough reflex, as this can lead to stagnation of sputum in the lungs and bronchi.
Contraindications
The use of Ambrobene inhalation solution is contraindicated in such cases:
Pronounced sensitivity to ambroxol or other auxiliary components of the drug.
Peptic ulcer with localization of ulcers in the stomach or duodenum.
Pregnancy in the early stages (I trimester).
During pregnancy in the II and III trimester, solution Ambrobene can be used only as prescribed by the doctor, when the expected benefit exceeds the potential risk to the growing fetus.
Dosage and administration
Ambrobene solution can be used orally or as an inhalation using an inhaler. When inhaled, the active substance accumulates in the bronchi and bronchioles faster, which accordingly reduces the period of the onset of the development of the therapeutic effect. In 1 ml of solution for inhalation contains 7.5 mg of ambroxol, so its dosage is carried out in ml using a measuring cup. The dosage regimen depends on age:
For children under 2 years of age - the drug is used in an amount of 1 ml 1-2 times per knock (total daily dose - 7.5-15 mg). Its use is possible only after the appointment of a doctor.
From 2 to 6 years - 1 ml of solution 3 times a day (daily dose of Ambroxol - 22.5 mg).
From 6 to 12 years - the dose is increased, the drug is used in a 2 ml solution 1-2 times a day (15-30 mg of Ambroxol per day).
For children over 12 years of age and adults, the drug, the first 2-3 days from the onset of a disease of the respiratory system, is used in a dose of 4 ml 2 times a day (60 mg of ambroxol per day). Then they switch to a maintenance regimen of drug intake into the body - 4 ml once a day (daily dose of 30 mg of Ambroxol).
These dosages are general recommendations. In general, the doctor selects the dose of the drug individually, depending on the severity of the pathological process in the bronchi and lungs.
Side effects
Ambrobene Solution is well tolerated. Nevertheless, the development of side effects after its use, which include:
On the part of the digestive system - nausea, vomiting more often develops, diarrhea, dry mucous membranes of the mouth and pharynx, bloating, abdominal pain (spastic in nature) can occur somewhat less often.
On the part of the nervous system, the development of changes in taste sensations (this side effect can develop quite often).
From the side of the immunity - a delayed-type hypersensitivity reaction develops infrequently (with each subsequent use of the drug, the reaction from the immune system develops more pronounced).
Allergic reactions - develop very rarely (less than 0.01%), are characterized by a rash and itching of the skin, the appearance of urticaria, and Quincke's edema. In severe cases, anaphylactic shock may develop.
Special instructions
Before using Ambrobene solution, you must carefully study the instructions. There are several features of Ambrobene solution:
It is advisable to use the drug not on an empty stomach, in order to reduce its negative effect on the mucous membrane of the stomach and duodenum.
The duration of treatment with the drug is determined by the attending physician, usually the course of therapy is a period of time until the cough symptoms cease.
For children under 2 years of age, the drug is prescribed only by a doctor individually.
In the event of any negative reactions to your body after using Ambrobene, you must stop using it and consult a doctor.
Nursing women are not recommended to use Ambrobene, the exception is when the doctor prescribes the drug, if the woman's benefit significantly exceeds the possible risk of developing negative reactions in the fetus.
With extreme caution, Ambrobene is used in individuals with pathology of the liver and kidneys, which is accompanied by a violation of the functional activity of these organs. When using it, laboratory monitoring of the functional state of these organs is mandatory.
With the combined use of Ambrobene with antibiotics (amoxicillin, cefuroxime), their concentration in sputum increases, which accelerates the treatment of bacterial bronchitis, pneumonia or tracheitis.
The use of the drug does not affect the reaction rate of a person, so it can be used when performing work requiring increased attention and a quick reaction.
The drug is over-the-counter; it is freely available in the pharmacy network. If you have any questions or doubts, before using Ambrobene solution, you should consult your doctor.
Overdose
Symptoms of a significant increase in the dose of the drug above therapeutic include diarrhea (diarrhea) and severe excitation from the central nervous system. In case of an overdose, gastric and intestinal lavage and symptomatic therapy are used.
