Dosage form, composition, packaging

Eye drops Trusopt are a sterile solution of a slightly viscous consistency, odorless and colorless. Dorzolamide acts as an active ingredient. Additionally, the composition includes:
    benzalkonium chloride;
    mannitol;
    polyethylene glycol;
    sodium salt of citric acid;
    sodium hydroxide;
    purified water.
The product is packaged in plastic bottles with a mechanism of the "Okumeter Plus" type. Therefore, it is very easy to dose the drug. A bottle of 5 or 10 ml is placed in a cardboard box, which is accompanied by an annotation with a detailed description of the drops.
Trusopt is produced by a European pharmaceutical company from France: Laboratoires Merck Sharp & Dohme-Shibret.

Healing properties

The antiglaucoma activity of drops is based on the active ingredient. Dorzolamide is a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor. It is an antiglaucoma agent that reduces the secretion of intraocular fluid. After instillation, the formation of bicarbonate slows down, which leads to a decrease in the transfer of sodium and water ions. As a result, intraocular pressure is effectively and permanently reduced.
With short-term use, the drug acts only on the surface of the eyeball. If the course of treatment is long, then the active substance enters the systemic circulation, gradually accumulating in erythrocytes. In this case, the substance is present in the blood plasma in an insignificant amount. The excretion of the active component and its metabolites from the body occurs to a greater extent by the kidneys along with the urine. After stopping the use of Trusopt, excretion is intense, then this process slows down. Therefore, the half-life is delayed by 3-4 months.

Indications, contraindications

The eye drops are prescribed for conditions accompanied by an increase in intraocular pressure:
    intraocular hypertension - an increase in intraocular pressure above 20 mm Hg;
    open-angle glaucoma is a dangerous pathology that most often occurs without pronounced symptoms;
    secondary glaucoma - a group of diseases that can result from trauma, inflammation, medication, surgery;
    Pseudoexfoliative glaucoma is a common type of open-angle glaucoma.
Trusopt is not prescribed if the patient has renal failure, high sensitivity to the components of the drug. Pregnancy, lactation, childhood, liver pathologies are relative contraindications, in which drops should be used carefully and on the recommendation of an ophthalmologist.

Method of use

The dosage regimen and duration of the course are set individually by a specialist. The patient should not independently change the doses prescribed by the doctor. The standard scheme specified in the instructions for use for Trusopt drops is 1 drop in the sore eye 3 times per knock. Instillation is preferably carried out in the morning, at lunchtime and in the evening.
Rules for using the medication:
    Before using drops for the first time, you must make sure that the protective strip is not damaged and the cap has not been opened.
    Carefully remove the protective strip, uncork the bottle (in the direction of the arrow indicated on the tube).
    Throw back the head slightly, pull back the lower eyelid, carry out instillation. The place where you should press is specially marked on the bottle.
If necessary, perform the procedure with the other eye. Then the cap of the bottle is tightly screwed up and put back in the original packaging.

Adverse reactions, overdose

First of all, undesirable consequences can manifest themselves on the part of the organ of vision:
    pain, burning, itching, redness in the eyes;
    increased lacrimation;
    photophobia;
    irritation of the eyelids.
In some cases, there is punctate keratitis, temporary myopia, conjunctivitis. With prolonged use of Trusopt drops or not adhering to the dosing regimen, the following systemic side effects may occur:
    bleeding from the nose;
    migraine-type headache;
    dryness and bitterness in the mouth;
    dizziness;
    hives;
    rash;
    nausea;
    increased weakness;
    constant fatigue.
The frequency and intensity of side effects does not depend on the patient's age. Therefore, in adults and children, the undesirable consequences are the same.
Violation of acid-base and water-electrolyte balance, malfunctions of the central nervous system are signs of an overdose. Symptomatic treatment aimed at relieving unpleasant symptoms and maintaining the body. Therapy for children is carried out in stationary conditions.

Special recommendations, interaction

Trusopt drops contain non-alconium chloride, which can affect the structure of contact lenses. Therefore, patients who wear lenses need to abandon the ophthalmic device for the period of therapy. If this is not possible, the lenses must be removed before instillation and put on after 20 minutes. Other important information:
    During treatment, you should refrain from driving a car and work that requires concentration. In some patients, the drops affect the functioning of the central nervous system.
    To reduce the likelihood of absorption of the drug solution into the systemic circulation, after instillation, the nasolacrimal canal is pressed with the pads of the fingers for several seconds.
    The doctor determines the need for prescribing the product during pregnancy and lactation (breastfeeding) individually.
    With the development of side effects and allergic manifestations, you should abandon the drug, consult a doctor.
    Trusopt drops are equally effective for adults and children. Therapy for patients under 18 years of age does not require dosage adjustment.
Drug interactions can occur when Trusopt drops are combined with carbonic anhydrase inhibitors for internal use. Combination therapy with high doses of acetylsalicylic acid also needs special attention.
In any case, the patient should tell the attending physician what medicines he is taking at the same time with drops.

Reviews

Dmitry Sergeevich, 56 years old
A year ago, I was diagnosed with glaucoma in one eye. The disease is very unpleasant, but the doctor said that I have a stage that you can try to stop with drops. Prescribed drops Trusopt. I have been dripping for a year now with small periods of "rest". The ophthalmologist noted a positive trend, the disease does not progress. I don't know how long the treatment will last, but so far it has helped me very well. I have never felt any side effects on myself. The drug is worthy, although it is expensive.
Maria, 36 years old
My grandmother has had glaucoma for a very long time, and for many years she has been dripping the antiglaucoma drug Trusopt into her eyes. They do not want to do the operation, since she is very old and there are a lot of concomitant diseases. The only drawback of the drops is that they cause drowsiness. Otherwise, Trusopt is not inferior to other similar drugs.
Olesya Yurievna, 49 years old
I have been suffering from glaucoma for several years. I tried many different drops. The best drops for me were Trusopt. No side effects, no veil after instillation, no burning sensation, no itching in the eyes. Many people write that the price is high, I disagree. There are drugs that are several times more expensive, but less effective. Trusopt is a high quality European medicine, I recommend it!
