Dosage form, composition

Oftaquix is a liquid homogeneous solution of light yellow color without a pronounced odor. Levofloxacin (Levofloxacin) in the form of a hemihydrate is an antibacterial active substance in drops. Additional substances are represented by the following ingredients:
    hydrochloric acid;
    benzalkonium chloride;
    sodium dioxide and chloride;
    purified water.
The medicinal solution is packaged in 5 ml polyethylene tubes. The bottle is equipped with a special built-in dropper dispenser for precise dosing of drops. The drug is in a branded cardboard box, which is accompanied by detailed instructions with all the characteristics.
The medication is produced by the pharmaceutical company Santen Pharmaceutical (Finland).

Mechanism of action

Levofloxacin is the L-isomer of the racemic drug substance ofloxacin. The substance acts selectively on pathogenic microorganisms. The active ingredient has the following effects:
    blocks DNA gyrase;
    blocks topoisomerase IV;
    violates supercoiling;
    disrupts the stitching of DNA breaks;
    inhibits DNA synthesis.
As a result, bacteria die due to deep morphological changes in their cytoplasm, cell walls and membranes.
The drug has proven to be effective against chlamydia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, morkacella, haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus aureus, gonococcus, hemolytic streptococcus, pneumococcus, tubercle bacillus.
After instillation, the ophthalmic solution is evenly distributed over the surface of the cornea. The maximum concentration of the active substance in the tear film is observed after 4-6 hours. When applied topically, absorption is negligible. The maximum concentration of levofloxacin in the blood was detected on the fourth day from the start of therapy with a frequency of use 3 times a day.

Consumer reviews

Regina, 33 years old
For conjunctivitis, the ophthalmologist prescribed these drops to me. It is necessary to bury 1-2 drops in a sore eye according to the scheme. This is what the doctor recommended to me. During treatment, no side effects occurred, although the instructions contain a whole list of unpleasant consequences. Drops help quickly! The inflammation disappeared after two days. The drops were completely eliminated in 5 days!
Ekaterina, 27 years old
A month ago, my daughter's eyes were inflamed, and she was diagnosed with conjunctivitis. The instructions indicate that children from a year can use these drops, but I was still worried (my daughter is allergic). I shouldn't have worried. She did not complain of unpleasant symptoms after instillation. The child was buried in the eyes of 2 drops before bedtime. In the morning I was very surprised that the irritation had passed, the redness had subsided. We were treated for only 2 days, this was enough for us.
Svetlana, 46 years old
My child often "brings" conjunctivitis from kindergarten. Previously, Okomistin always dripped. These drops didn't help this time. We consulted an ophthalmologist, who recommended dripping Oftaquix 3 times a day for 5 days. The antibiotic is levofloxacin. I noticed an improvement after the second instillation. After 2 days, the eyes became healthy again. The medicine was used for only 3 days. During the treatment my daughter felt well and did not complain. Now Oftaquix drops are always in the home medicine cabinet.
