Composition and release form

Sumamed’s manufacturer is the Croatian pharmaceutical company Pliva Hrvatska. Forms of release are as follows:
    250 mg capsules of the active substance;
    tablets of 125 and 500 mg of azithromycin;
    powder for suspension for oral administration: 100 mg / 5 ml and 200 mg / 5 ml.
Clinico-pharmacological group: macrolide antibiotic - azalide.

What is Sumamed used for?

Indications for use Sumamed - inflammatory diseases of infectious nature, caused by microbial strains that are sensitive to the drug:
    LOR-orgapov infections (bacterial pharyngitis / tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media);
    Lower respiratory tract infections (bacterial bronchitis, interstitial and alveolar pneumonia, exacerbation of chronic bronchitis);
    Infections of the skin and soft tissues (chronic migrating erythema - the initial stage of Lyme disease, erysipelas, impetigo, secondary gshodermatozy);
    Sexually transmitted infections (urethritis, cervicitis)
    Diseases of the stomach and duodenum 12 associated with Helicobacter pylori.

pharmachologic effect

Broad-spectrum antibiotic. Antibiotic-azalide, a representative of a new subgroup of macrolide antibiotics. When creating in the focus of inflammation of high concentrations has a bactericidal effect.
    Gram-positive cocci are sensitive to azithromycin: Streptococcus pneumoniae, St. pyogenes, St. agalactiae, streptococcus groups CF and G, Staphylococcus aureus, St. viridans; gram-negative bacteria: Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Bordetella pertussis, B. parapertussis, Legionella pneumophila, H. ducrei, Campylobacter jejuni, Neisseria gonorrhoeae and Gardnerella vaginalis; Some anaerobic microorganisms: Bacteroides bivius, Clostridium perfringens, Peptostreptococcus spp; also Chlamydia trachomatis, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Ureaplasma urealyticum, Treponema pallidum, Borrelia burgdoferi.
Azithromycin is inactive against gram-positive bacteria that are resistant to erythromycin.

Instructions for use

Adults Sumamed tablets prescribed by mouth 1 time / day, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal, without chewing.
    For infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, ENT organs, skin and soft tissues, Sumamed is prescribed at a dose of 500 mg 1 time / day for 3 days, the course dose is 1.5 g.
    In Lyme disease (the initial stage of borreliosis) - erythema migrans (erythema misrans), the drug is prescribed 1 time per day for 5 days: on day 1 - 1 g, then from 2 to 5 days - 500 mg; course dose - 3 g.
    Urinary tract infections caused by Chlamydia trachomatis (urethritis, cervicitis): for uncomplicated urethritis / cervicitis, Sumamed is prescribed in a dose of 1 g once.
    When acne vulgaris moderate severity of the drug is prescribed in tablets at a dose of 500 mg 1 time / day for 3 days, then 500 mg 1 time per week for 9 weeks. The course dose is 6 g. The first weekly dose should be taken 7 days after taking the first daily dose (the 8th day from the start of treatment), the next 8 weekly doses should be taken at an interval of 7 days.

Contraindications for Sumamed

The drug has certain contraindications:
    concomitant use with ergotamine and dihydroergotamine;
    hypersensitivity to azithromycin and other components of the drug;
    severe violations of the liver and kidneys;
    lactation period (breastfeeding);
    hypersensitivity to macrolide antibiotics;
    children's age up to 12 years and body weight less than 45 kg (for capsules and tablets 500 mg);
    children's age up to 3 years (for tablets 125 mg).
    syrup (suspension) should not be given to children under 6 months.
Precautions should be prescribed when moderate violations of the liver and kidneys, patients with disorders or susceptibility to arrhythmias and prolongation of the QT interval, together with terfenadine, warfarin, digoxin.

Side effects of Sumamed

    On the part of the cardiovascular system: palpitations, chest pain (1% or less).
    Nervous system disorders: dizziness, headache, vertigo, drowsiness; in children - headache (in the treatment of otitis media), hyperkinesia, anxiety, neurosis, sleep disorders (1% or less).
    On the part of the digestive system: ingestion - diarrhea (5%), nausea (3%), abdominal pain (3%); 1% or less - flatulence, vomiting, melena, cholestatic jaundice, increased activity of “liver” transaminases; besides, children have constipation, decreased appetite, gastritis; Candidiasis of the oral mucosa.
    Allergic reactions: rash, urticaria, itchy skin, angioedema; with a / in the introduction of Sumamed - bronchospasm (1% or less).
    From the genitourinary system: vaginal candidiasis, nephritis (1% or less).

    Others: asthenia, photosensitization; children have conjunctivitis; change in taste (1% or less).
Overdose of Sumamed. Symptoms: severe nausea, temporary hearing loss, vomiting, diarrhea.

Pregnancy

During periods of pregnancy and breastfeeding, sumamed is not prescribed, except in cases where the benefits of using the drug outweigh the possible risk.

Storage conditions
