Release form and composition

Otinum medicinal drops are produced in the form of a transparent alcohol-based solution, in the light they have a light golden hue, a weak smell of ethyl alcohol. No sediment during storage. 1 ml of the drug contains 0.2 g of active ingredient. Among the active ingredients in the composition:
    choline salicylate;
    ethanol;
    water;
    glycerol;
    chlorobutanol hemihydrate.
The drug is packaged in a 10 mg polyethylene bottle, which does not transmit light. Equipped with a built-in dropper dispenser, additionally closed with a protective cap during storage. The cardboard box contains instructions and information on the composition.

Pharmachologic effect

Otinum drops belong to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The main active ingredient of choline salicylate is a derivative of salicylic acid, it destroys pathogenic microorganisms, inhibits the growth of bacteria. At the same time, the production of prostaglandin enzymes increases, which reduce pain by suppressing receptor sensitivity.
When the drug is instilled, wounds and open inflamed areas are disinfected, healing is accelerated, burning and pain pass.
The main component effectively suppresses some fungal and microbial infections at any stage of development, relieves inflammation.

Storage conditions

In a sealed package and with an unopened protective ring, Otinum drops can be stored up to 3 years from the date indicated by the manufacturer on the carton. But after depressurization of the bottle, the shelf life is reduced to 28 days. After this period, it loses its medicinal properties and must be disposed of.

Indications and contraindications for use

Otinum ear drops are used to reduce symptoms in inflammatory processes in the ear canal. Recommended for use in adults with external otitis media and the following diseases:
    middle purulent otitis media with an acute course;
    myringitis;
    some fungal infections;
    acute pain after surgery, removal of the fistula;
    catarrhal inflammation of bacterial origin.
The list from which it is recommended to use Otinum drops is supplemented by the recommendation to drip the product when removing sulfur plugs. They are safe for the ears, perfectly soften the hardened formation, while eliminating the development of infection or complications after washing.
The medicine is not used for young children. It has a number of contraindications that limit its use in some patients:
    allergy to salicylic acid and its derivatives;
    rupture of the tympanic membrane;
    hypersensitivity to ethyl alcohol;
    bronchial asthma in the acute stage;
    children under 18;
    pregnancy.
With caution and only on the recommendation of a doctor, the medicine is used in people suffering from seasonal allergies. With pollinosis or rhinitis, it can worsen the condition, provoke swelling of the nasopharyngeal mucosa.

Side effects

If the dosage is violated or if you are allergic to one of the active ingredients, the patient may experience unpleasant symptoms:
    burning;
    increased pain in the ear canal;
    the appearance of edema;
    rashes on the skin;
    the appearance of rhinitis.
With prolonged use without a doctor's prescription, some patients experience a decrease in hearing acuity. During treatment, it is necessary to regularly visit an otolaryngologist: with perforation of the tympanic membrane, the side effects only increase.

Instructions for use

Drops Otinum instruction recommends to apply externally, to bury in the patient's ear canal. Before use, the bottle must be slightly warmed in the hand so that the liquid is distributed evenly, there is no painful spasm when the composition gets on the inflamed area. It is better for the patient to take a position lying on one side.
Otinum ear drops instructions for use recommend dosing as follows:
    Bury the inflamed ear 3 times a day, 3-4 drops in each ear canal. After the procedure, maintain a lying position for several minutes.
    To soften the sulfur plugs before removing them, 3 drops are instilled 2 times a day. The same dosage is used in the treatment of otitis media in patients with poor health, kidney and liver pathologies.
With purulent otitis media or myringitis, the optimal treatment period is from 7 to 10 days. Duration and dosage should be adjusted by a specialist.

Treatment of children

According to the instructions, Otinum drops are not used to treat children and adolescents under 18 years of age. This is due to the lack of reliable information on the safety of the components: the manufacturer did not conduct clinical trials in this category of patients.

For adults

When treating the elderly or patients with impaired urinary function, doctors reduce the dosage. In most cases, drops are well tolerated, but the ethanol in the composition can provoke complications when combined with some drugs.
During pregnancy and during the period of breastfeeding, medicinal drops are not used. They can enter the bloodstream, are unsafe for the development of the baby, and therefore are replaced with natural-based analogs.

Overdose

The instruction indicates that Otinum drops should be used no more than 4 times a day. In case of an overdose, the patient may experience a negative reaction, which manifests itself in the form of the following symptoms:
    loss of orientation in space;
    dizziness against the background of stable blood pressure;
    increased sweating;
    nausea;
    vomiting.
In case of an overdose, there is a risk of dysfunction of the central nervous system. This manifests itself in the appearance of shortness of breath, the patient complains of a feeling of lack of air, ringing or extraneous noises in the ears.
In case of accidental ingestion, it is necessary to thoroughly rinse the stomach with clean water, urgently go to the hospital. In a hospital setting, the use of drugs that neutralize the effect of choline salicylate, constant monitoring of electrolyte levels and kidney functionality is required.
Complications more often occur if a person simultaneously ingests salicylic acid-based drugs. They are recommended for chronic hypertension, after a stroke, to improve blood composition and prevent thrombosis.

Reviews

Elena, 32 years old
After a trip in a car with an open window, I began to have severe pain in my left ear, I could not sleep and could not chew food. After examination, the doctor diagnosed otitis externa and prescribed Otinum drops. After the first instillation in just 5-7 minutes, the pain subsided noticeably, and stopped pounding with spasms. I buried the medicine 4 times a day for a whole week, I did not notice any side effects.
