Slabicap is a laxative.
Release form and composition
Dosage form - drops for oral administration: slightly viscous, colorless or slightly colored transparent liquid (15 ml each in a dark glass dropper bottle or 10 ml in a polymer dropper bottle, 1 dropper bottle in a cardboard box).
Composition 1 ml drops:
active substance: sodium picosulfate - 7.5 mg;
auxiliary components: sorbitol, propylene glycol, water for injection.
Pharmacodynamics
The action of the drug is due to the ability of its active substance, sodium picosulfate, to reduce the absorption of electrolytes and water and increase intestinal motility.
The active component undergoes hydrolysis and the influence of intestinal microorganisms, which leads to the formation of an active form that excites the nerve structures of the intestinal wall and increases the speed of movement of contents through the intestines.
The effect of the drug occurs 10-12 hours after taking it.
Pharmacokinetics
The drug is not absorbed in the digestive tract and is not subjected to hepatic-intestinal circulation.
Indications for use
atonic constipation;
stool regulation for hemorrhoids, proctitis, anus cracks;
preparation for surgical interventions, instrumental and radiological studies.
Contraindications
Absolute:
bowel obstruction;
strangulated hernia;
inflammatory diseases of the abdominal cavity in the acute stage;
peritonitis;
abdominal pain of unknown origin;

metrorrhagia;
cystitis;
severe dehydration;
spastic constipation;
I trimester of pregnancy;

Drops of Slabicap are taken orally before bedtime.
Recommended Dosage:
adults: initial dose - 10 drops, if necessary - up to 30 drops;
children over 4 years: initial dose - 5-8 drops.
Increasing or decreasing the dose depends on the effect obtained after the first dose of the drug.
Side effects
When taking Slabicap, the following side effects are possible: dehydration, diarrhea, abdominal pain, weakness, cramps, disturbances in water-electrolyte balance, lowering blood pressure (BP).
Overdose
With an overdose, side effects of the drug develop, with chronic overdose there is a risk of developing ischemia of the colon mucosa, secondary hyperaldosteronism, urolithiasis, and damage to the renal tubules.
Recommended treatment: gastric lavage, antispasmodics, correction of disturbances in water-electrolyte balance.
