Release form and composition

Chewable tablets (mint, lemon): round, flat, with beveled edges, a sword in a circle is depicted on one side, the inscription "G 250" is applied on the other; the color of the tablets is from almost white to cream, small inclusions are allowed; the smell is characteristic mint / lemon (mint tablets: 4, 6, 8 or 10 pcs. in blisters, 1–4 blisters in a cardboard pack; 16 or 20 pcs in polypropylene containers, 2 containers in a cardboard pack; lemon tablets: 8 pcs. In blisters, 1–4 blisters in a pack of cardboard).
Composition of tablets (per 1 pc.):
    active substances: sodium alginate - 0.25 g; sodium bicarbonate - 0.1335 g; calcium carbonate - 0.08 g;
    auxiliary components: mannitol, macrogol, magnesium stearate, aspartame, copovidone, potassium acesulfame, mint / lemon flavor.

Indications for use

Gaviscon is used for symptomatic therapy of heartburn, acid belching, dyspepsia, a feeling of heaviness in the stomach that occurs after eating in pregnant women or with gastroesophageal reflux.

Contraindications

Gaviscon is contraindicated in children under 6 years of age (for suspension), children under 12 years of age (for tablets) and with increased individual sensitivity to any of the components.
Gaviscon tablets should not be taken with phenylketonuria.
Relative contraindications for Gaviscon tablets (conditions in which you need to consult a doctor before taking the drug): hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis and urolithiasis with the formation of oxalates, congestive heart failure, impaired renal function.

Dosage and administration

Gaviscon tablets are taken orally, chewing carefully, after each meal and at night (before bedtime).
Recommended doses for adults and children over 12 years: 2–4 tablets up to 4 times a day.
Patients with liver failure do not require dose adjustment.
In elderly patients, dose adjustment is not necessary.
Gaviscon should be taken with caution in case of kidney failure, if a low-salt diet is required.


Side effects

    immune system: anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions, hypersensitivity reactions (urticaria);
    respiratory system: respiratory effects (bronchospasm).
The appearance of these side effects, their exacerbation or the presence of other side effects should be immediately reported to the doctor.
A sign of an overdose is bloating (symptomatic treatment is recommended).

Gaviscon does not have teratogenic, embryotoxic and mutagenic effects, so the drug can be taken by pregnant and lactating women.
The preparation contains sodium: 10 ml of suspension - 141 mg (6.2 mmol), 4 tablets - 246 mg (10.8 mmol). This should be considered in patients with impaired renal function, congestive heart failure, adhering to a diet with a limited salt content.
1 tablet contains 320 mg of calcium carbonate, which should be considered in patients with nephrocalcinosis, hypercalcemia, urolithiasis with the formation of oxalates, being careful when taking Gaviscon.
Since aspartame is part of the tablets, they should not be taken in patients with phenylketonuria.
Patients with diabetes can take Gaviscon tablets, because aspartame is used as a sweetener in them.
The drug does not affect the speed of psychomotor reactions and the ability to concentrate, necessary to perform potentially dangerous types of work, including driving.

Drug interaction

Histamine H2 receptor blockers, tetracycline antibiotics, digoxin, fluoroquinolone, iron salts, ketoconazole, antipsychotics, levothyroxine sodium, thyroid hormones, penicillamine, β-adrenergic blocking agents (metoprolol, atenolol, propranolocinolidene, glucotrofenocin, glucose, glucose, bisulfonate, glucocortinolone, glucose, bisulfonate, glucocorticosterone, the interval with the use of Gaviscon simultaneously with these drugs, since calcium carbonate, which is part of it, has a strong antacid activity.
