Tantum Verde is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for topical use in dentistry and ENT practice.

Release form and composition

    lozenges: square, with a recess in the center, translucent, green, with a characteristic mint-lemon smell (each tablet in an individual wrapper made of waxed paper, 10 pcs. in a wrapper made of two-layer aluminum foil, 2 aluminum wrappers in a cardboard box).
Active substance Tantum Verde: benzalkonium hydrochloride, its content in 1 tablet is 3 mg.
Auxiliary components of tablets: citric acid monohydrate, racemol, isomaltose, aspartame, dyes indigo carmine (E132) and quinoline yellow (E104), lemon and mint flavors.

Pharmacodynamics

Benzidamine is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and is part of the indazole group. It is characterized by local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory effects, and is also an antiseptic that is effective against a wide range of microorganisms.
Tantum Verde stabilizes cell membranes and inhibits the production of prostaglandins. Benzidamine has an antibacterial and specific antimicrobial effect due to the rapid penetration of microorganisms through the membranes, which leads to damage to cellular structures, metabolic disorders and cell lysis.
Tantum Verde has an antifungal effect in diseases caused by Candida albicans. Benzidamine causes modifications of the metabolic chains of mycetes and cell walls of fungi of a structural nature. This prevents their reproduction, therefore, the appointment of benzidamine is recommended for inflammatory processes in the oral cavity, including diseases of infectious etiology.

Pharmacokinetics

With topical application, the process of absorption of benzidamine through the mucous membranes proceeds quickly, so the substance penetrates well into inflamed tissues.
Tantum Verde is excreted mainly through the kidneys and intestines in the form of conjugation products or metabolites. Dosage forms of the drug intended for local use do not have a systemic effect and do not penetrate into breast milk.

Indications for use

Tantum Verde is used to treat the following inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity, pharynx and throat:
    periodontal disease;
    conditions after treatment and tooth extraction;
    calculous inflammation of the salivary glands;
    laryngitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, tonsillitis;
    conditions after surgical interventions and injuries (including after tonsillectomy, jaw fractures);
    glossitis, gingivitis, stomatitis (including after radiation and chemotherapy);
    candidiasis (as part of combination therapy).

Contraindications

    phenylketonuria (for tablets);
    children under 3 years old - for tablets and spray;
    hypersensitivity to the components of the drug.

Resorption tablets should be kept in the mouth until completely dissolved. Adults (including the elderly) and children over 3 years of age are prescribed 1 pc. 3-4 times a day.
