Structure

    Inhalipt is a combined preparation in the form of a spray or aerosol, consisting of essential oils and sulfonamides - antibacterial drugs that were invented even before antibiotics.
    Peppermint leaf oil is used as a local irritant. The substance enhances blood circulation in the mucous membrane of the oral cavity, and thus helps fight inflammation.
    Mesulfamide is a drug from the group of sulfonamides, which is called by the trade name soluble streptocide. Although chemically they are different substances, from the point of view of pharmacology they are similar: they belong to the same pharmacological group (sulfonamides), only local use, they have the same antimicrobial activity: they inhibit the growth of microorganisms, disrupting the functioning of their cell wall, one of the most important organelles in the process of mitosis ( divisions). The only difference is mesulfamide is better soluble in water.
    Sulfathiazole is another representative of the same pharmaceutical group. It differs from mesulfamide in the duration of action (shorter for sulfathiazole) and the possibility of oral administration, since sulfathiazole is better dissolved and, therefore, absorbed.
    Thymol has antiseptic activity - it destroys microbes. This is a chemical analogue of the active substance of thyme essential oil.
    Eucalyptus oil effectively destroys bacteria and fungi and relieves inflammation.

Release form

Aerosol Inhalipt
The volume of the bottle is 15 or 30 ml of glass or aluminum with a continuous valve. The composition and application features of the aerosol are the same as that of the spray.

pharmachologic effect

An inhalipt, regardless of whether it is a spray or an aerosol, stops the growth of microorganisms, destroys them and reduces the symptoms of inflammation. Its effect is due to the presence in the composition of an antiseptic, two antimicrobial agents from the group of sulfonamides and essential oils.
Sulfanilamides disrupt the functioning of the wall of microbes, and this prevents their division. Thymol and eucalyptus oil destroy microorganisms. Peppermint leaf oil stimulates the body's natural anti-bacterial defense mechanisms. The locally irritating effect of this oil leads to increased blood circulation at the site of application of the drug. Blood carries proteins that the body produces to protect against infection, and cells of the immune system - white blood cells. As a result, the body can more effectively fight germs and viruses.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

Inhalipt is a topical preparation. It practically does not penetrate the blood, and therefore it is pointless to talk about exactly how the components of the drug are converted into inactive metabolites in the body: only trace amounts of sulfonamides can be found in the blood in the liver and quickly excreted by the kidneys.

Indications for use

The drug is used to treat inflammation in the throat and larynx: pharyngitis, laryngitis and tonsillitis. In dentistry, it is used to treat stomatitis, including aphthous. Among the indications of Inhalipt, there are SARS, which are accompanied by a sore throat: although this medicine is ineffective against viruses, it will relieve inflammation, alleviate the condition of the throat and prevent harmful microorganisms from multiplying, which would otherwise complicate the course of the common cold.

Contraindications

    Hypersensitivity to sulfonamides, thymol, peppermint and eucalyptus oils, as well as glycerol and ethanol - auxiliary components of Inhalipt;
    age up to 3 years, since in young children when using sprays and aerosols laryngospasm may occur;
    pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding is a relative contraindication, since drug safety studies have not been conducted in these groups of patients;
    although there is no data on the systemic (whole body) effect of Inhalipt, it is not recommended to be treated by those who are diagnosed with diseases of the hematopoietic system, chronic kidney diseases, autoimmune hyperthyroidism (diffuse toxic goiter, and bazedova disease).

Side effects

Burning sensation at the points of use of Inhalipt, sore throat, allergy.

Dosage and administration

With angina

The medicine is used 3-4 times a day. Before use, gargle with plain water, preferably boiled. Spray time is 1-2 seconds. After irrigation, the pharynx should not be eaten or drunk for 40 minutes so that the spray or aerosol can act. With angina, only "Inhalipt" for treatment is not enough. In order to recover faster and not get complications, other drugs are needed, which should be prescribed by a doctor.

Stomatitis treatment

It is used in the same way as with angina, but the head of the nebulizer is sent not to the throat, but to the place of damage to the mucous membrane.

With pharyngitis

Application does not differ from use for angina. Inhalipt is additionally useful in this case in that it contains essential oils that further soften the mucous membrane of the larynx.

With laryngitis

Use the same way as with angina. Additionally, a “voice diet” is recommended - complete silence so as not to injure the ligaments.

special instructions

    Inhalipt contains ethanol. This is important for drivers. There is little alcohol in the drug, and a blood test carried out according to the procedure approved by law will not show excess, but portable testers of traffic police can react to alcohol. Therefore, if you are asked to “blow into the tube” during the treatment period, insist on a full examination. It is advisable to have an appointment with a doctor.

During pregnancy

Treatment with Inhalipt during pregnancy and breastfeeding is carried out with caution, since there are no exact studies on the safety of its use. According to international standards, reliable studies of drugs during pregnancy are possible only if they are drugs specially designed for women expecting a baby. Symptoms, medications for most diseases on women during pregnancy are prohibited from testing even with voluntary informed consent. Therefore, when prescribing almost any medication during pregnancy, doctors are forced to rely on the experience of accidental use of the drug and on the theoretical justification of its harm or harmlessness.
Inhalipt belongs to local remedies and its components are minimally absorbed into the blood and bind to its proteins. Based on these considerations, it should not cause harm to the fetus, however, studies of streptocide in mice have shown that in the offspring the frequency of defects in the fetal development, for example, the cleft palate, increases.
Animal experiments are usually carried out using high doses of drugs that are injected and immediately enter the bloodstream. When applied topically, the drug overcomes many biological filters before it enters the fetal circulatory system and begins to affect it. For example, the liver significantly reduces the concentration of drugs in the blood, which is already low in the case of sulfanilamides: they bind poorly to blood proteins. Therefore, it is extremely unlikely that Inhalipt can harm an unborn baby.

For children

In children, Inhalipt is often used. If the drug is prescribed on time, it is effective. Like other sprays and aerosols, "Inhalipt" is used for children from 3 years old. Sometimes doctors prescribe a drug for younger children, as practice shows that complications are extremely rare. Before using the medicine, ask your child to rinse his throat with plain warm water to wash off excess mucus. In some children, sprays and aerosols activate the gag reflex. In this case, “Inhalipt” is replaced with lozenges.

Drug interaction

Do not combine the use of "Inhalipt" with other antiseptics for the throat due to possible reactions of drugs and excipients to each other and an increased risk of allergies. You should not combine "Inhalipt" with drugs containing novocaine and lidocaine, which in their action are opposite to peppermint oil.

Terms of storage

Store the drug at room temperature - from +3 to +20 degrees, protecting from direct sunlight and heat. Since Inhalipt aerosol cans are under pressure, they can explode if overheated. In spray vials, the pressure is normal, but overheating in this case can damage the drug itself.

Doctor Frequently Asked Questions

     “Is the spray harmful, they say, can it drive the infection deeper?”
This is not true. Both sprays and aerosols after spraying quickly settle on the mucous membrane of the throat, penetrating into the most inaccessible places. Particles of spray or aerosol can neither move the bacteria, nor otherwise affect their movement.
     “After using Inhalipt it got worse, my ears got sick, I was diagnosed with sinusitis. Could it be because of the drug? ”
No, he can not. In medicine, there is the principle "After - does not mean consequence." This means that the relationship between the two events needs proof. Inhalipt contains nothing that provokes the growth of microorganisms. But the delayed use of the drug can lead to the fact that the inflammatory process goes deeper and actively manifests itself against the background of the use of Inhalipt or any other antiseptic. It also happens that microbes are insensitive to the active component of the drug. In this regard, Inhalipt wins because he has several components, and even if the bacteria that caused the inflammation are insensitive to streptocide, thymol and essential oils still remain.
     “They say streptocide has long been banned in Europe. Is Inhalipt an Obsolete Medicine? ”
In some European countries, it was not streptocide that was banned, but sulfanilamides as a group of drugs for systemic use, that is, for oral administration. Inhalipt is a local remedy. As for the opinion about the ineffectiveness of this group of drugs due to the fact that for almost a century of use it has led to the appearance of resistant microbes - this is not always the case. Firstly, many microbes retained sensitivity to streptocide. Secondly, combined preparations can achieve the effect even when the bacteria are conditionally resistant to any of their components.
     “I was prescribed Inhalipt and the ciprofloxacin antibiotic. May I not take any of these drugs, or there are too many antibiotics, I'm afraid of dysbiosis. ”
You cannot, in any case, without discussion with your doctor. Do not worry that there are many antibiotics: Inhalipt is a local drug, it is not absorbed into the blood, does not interact with ciprofloxacin and, moreover, does not affect the intestinal microflora.
