Composition and release form

The drug is available only in the form of a powder intended for the preparation of a solution administered intramuscularly or intravenously. The powder may be white or yellowish. Glass bottles of 10 ml are produced in packs of cardboard with the attached instructions from the manufacturer. Cefotaxime tablets are not available.
    Each bottle contains the active ingredient Cefotaxime - 0.5 or 1.0 g (in the form of cefotaxime sodium salt).

pharmachologic effect

Cefotaxime is a semisynthetic antibiotic of the group of third-generation cephalosporins, broad-spectrum, for parenteral administration. The drug is effective against many gram-positive and has a high activity against gram-negative bacteria.
The mechanism of antimicrobial action of Cefotaxime is associated with inhibition of the activity of the enzyme transpeptidase by the blockade of peptidoglycan, a violation of the formation of the mucopeptide of the cell wall of microorganisms.

Instructions for use

Cefotaxime is intended for intravenous and intramuscular administration.
    For intravenous administration, 1 g of the drug is diluted in 8 ml of sterile water for injection.
    For intramuscular administration, 1 g of the drug is diluted in 4 ml of sterile water for injection or in 1% lidocaine solution.
    Children with a body weight of up to 50 kg are prescribed 50-100 mg of the drug per 1 kg of body weight per day. This dose is divided into 3-4 doses.
    For uncomplicated diseases, adults are prescribed 1 mg every 12 hours.
    For severe infectious diseases (such as meningitis), 2 g of Cefotaxime is prescribed every 6-8 hours.
    For moderate infections - in / m or / in / in 1-2 g every 12 hours.
    With uncomplicated infections, as well as urinary tract infections - in / m or / in / in 1 g every 8-12 hours.
    With uncomplicated acute gonorrhea - in / m in a dose of 1 g once.
    In order to prevent the development of infections before surgery, it is administered during induction anesthesia once at a dose of 1 g. If necessary, repeat the introduction after 6-12 hours.

Contraindications

    bleeding;
    pregnancy;
    individual hypersensitivity to the active component;
    enterocolitis (including in history).
The drug should be used with caution in newborns, during lactation (in insignificant concentrations is excreted in breast milk), in chronic renal failure, in NUC (including a history).
