Description and composition

Drops for children Zodac are produced by the pharmaceutical company Zentiva, the country of origin is the Czech Republic. The active ingredient of the drug is cetirizine dihydrochloride, which is a selective 2 generation H1-histamine peripheral receptor blocker. The substance does not have significant anthoholergic and antiserotonin action, which makes the drug more effective and safe for administration in childhood compared with the first generation of antihistamines.
Auxiliary medicinal substances: purified water, glycerol, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium saccharinate dihydrate, glacial acetic acid, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium acetate trihydrate, propylene glycol. Additional substances are needed to create a convenient dosage form, extend the maximum shelf life, increase the effectiveness of the active substance in the preparation.

Pharmacological group

Drops for children Zodac belong to the antihistamine group of drugs of the 2nd generation.

Pharmacodynamics

The active active ingredient - cetirizine dihydrochloride selectively blocks peripheral H1-histamine receptors and competes with the effects of histamine. This leads to the elimination of allergic reactions in the body and improve the overall condition. The drug reduces the activity of eosinophils and basophils in the skin and mucous membranes, which prevents allergic damage to the eyes, upper respiratory tract, and skin.
In therapeutic age doses, Zodac drops prevents the development of seasonal and atopic rhinitis, conjunctivitis, asthma, urticaria, allergic dermatitis, eczema. Cetirizine has anti-edema and anti-inflammatory effect, improves airway patency, reduces the formation of inflammatory discharge from the nose and eyes, prevents skin rash, soothes itching and sverbeniya.

Pharmacokinetics

Drops Zodac designed for oral administration. After entering the digestive tract, the drug is absorbed in the stomach, penetrates the general bloodstream (systemic action), is associated with 93% of blood transport proteins. In clinical trials, no effect of cetirizine on warfarin with transport albumin was detected. The maximum concentration of the drug in the blood plasma is reached in 30-90 minutes. The rate of absorption is affected by the use of drops with food. Reception at mealtime lengthens the rate of absorption, but does not affect the concentration of the drug in the blood plasma.
Cetirizine for the most part is not metabolized in the liver. The drug is excreted by the kidneys by 2/3 unchanged. Accumulation of cetirizine in the body was not detected. Disruption of the pharmacokinetics of the drug develops in renal failure. With creatinine clearance less than 10 ml / minute, cetirizine is not excreted and has a toxic effect on organs and tissues. The half-life of the drug from the body in children is 3 hours, in adults an average of 10 hours.

Side effects

Taking Zodac drops in recommended age doses rarely leads to side effects. Despite the fact that cimetidine dihydrochloride selectively blocks the H1-histamine receptors and practically does not penetrate the blood-brain barrier, sometimes undesirable consequences arise from the central nervous system (central nervous system). Rapid fatigue, drowsiness, headache, dizziness, periods of mental arousal appear.
Strengthening the anticholinergic effect causes impaired urination and urinary retention, deterioration of the accommodation process (ability to focus eyesight), dryness in the oral cavity. Side effects from the liver are manifested by an increase in blood concentrations of bilirubin and liver enzymes. These indicators are normalized after discontinuation of the drug. Register nausea, single vomiting, pain in the abdomen. Rarely children develop medicinal pharyngitis.

Interaction with other drugs

In clinical studies, no negative interaction of cimetidine with other drugs was detected. Do not recommend taking several drugs with antihistamine action without a prescription.

A clinically significant overdose is recorded when the therapeutic dose is exceeded 5 or more times. On the background of an overdose, pathological symptoms of the central nervous system develop: anxiety becomes replaced by drowsiness, stupor, hand tremor, headache, confusion. On the part of the digestive system, there is spasmodic pain in the abdomen and diarrhea, on the part of the cardiovascular system, tachycardia (increased heart rate), urination — urinary retention.
