Sage leaves - a herbal preparation with anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects, used locally in ENT practice.

Release form and composition

Dosage forms of release Sage leaves:
    shredded plant raw materials (shredded leaves): pieces of stems, leaves and flowers of a plant are greyish-green, greenish-gray or silver-white with reddish-violet, light brown, greenish-brown, white, yellowish-white and rare brown blotches; has a fragrant smell; the taste of water extraction is bitter-spicy, somewhat astringent (in a cardboard box of 20, 30, 35, 40, 50, 60, 75 or 100 g);
    vegetable-powder raw materials (leaf-powder): a mixture of leaf particles with a small number of flower particles and plant stems passing through a 2 mm sieve, grayish-green, green, silver-gray or silver-green with whitish, brownish and yellowish blotches; has a fragrant smell; the taste of water extraction is somewhat astringent, bitter-spicy (in a cardboard pack of 10, 20 or 24 filter bags of 1.5 g each).
Active substance: sage leaves - 100%.
Sage leaves contain vitamin P, essential oil, resins, tannins, organic acids, flavonoids, volatile and other biologically active substances.

Pharmacological properties

Infusion of sage leaves has an antimicrobial, local anti-inflammatory and astringent effect.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Sage leaves are prescribed for the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the oral cavity, larynx and pharynx, including stomatitis, gingivitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis (as part of complex therapy).

Contraindications

Absolute:
    age up to 12 years;
    individual intolerance to the components of the drug.
Relative (the drug is taken under medical supervision):
    pregnancy;
    lactation period.


Instructions for use Sage leaves: method and dosage

Infusion of sage leaves in the form of heat is applied topically to rinse the mouth and throat from 3 to 5 times a day.
Method of preparing the infusion:
    crushed raw materials: approximately 10 g (2-3 tablespoons) of the raw materials should be placed in an enamel bowl, pour one glass of hot boiled water, close the lid and heat for 15 minutes in a boiling water bath; then the infusion should be cooled at room temperature for 45 minutes, strain and squeeze the remaining raw materials. The amount of infusion obtained must be brought to the original boiled water;
    raw powder: 4.5 g (3 filter bags) should be placed in a glass / enamel dish, pour 1/2 cup boiling water, cover and leave for 15 minutes; after this, filter bags must be squeezed out and the volume of infusion brought to the original with boiled water.
For one rinse, use 1/2 to 1 cup of infusion. It is recommended to shake it before the procedure.
The average duration of use is from 2 to 4 weeks.

Side effects

Allergic reactions are possible.

Overdose

The likelihood of developing an overdose with topical application in compliance with the recommended dosage regimen is unlikely.
Possible symptoms in case of ingestion of high doses (more than 15 g of dried leaves): vomiting, convulsions, tachycardia, tinnitus.
Therapy: symptomatic.
