The active substance, metronidazole, belongs to the group of nitroimidazole derivatives. After the reaction of reduction of the 5-nitro group, which occurs when interacting with the intracellular proteins of bacteria, the drug is able to inhibit the synthesis of certain nucleic acids, which are the basis of bacterial DNA.
Due to this effect on DNA, microbial cells die. Metrogyl is effective in treating bacterial infections caused by anaerobic microorganisms Veillonela spp., Fusobacterium spp., Bacteroides spp., Clostridium spp., Eubacterium spp., Peptostreptococcus spp., Peptococcus spp. Strains of Trichomonas vaginalis, Gardnerella vaginalis, Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia intestinalis are sensitive to the action of metronidazole.
Aerobic microorganisms and facultative anaerobes are insensitive to Metrogyl gel, but in the presence of mixed flora (aerobes and anaerobes), metronidazole acts synergistically with antibiotics that are effective against ordinary aerobes.
It increases the sensitivity of tumors to radiation, causes disulfiram-like reactions, stimulates reparative processes.

Reviews

Vera
In this autumn-winter-spring, even the thrush did not come to me, let alone other infections that “walk” among women during the cold season. metrogyl saved this happiness. I used it as a warning strike against infections, although I usually know that it is already used to treat post factum. From the experience of a girlfriend, I can say that he treats as well, as it prevents it))

Metronidazole is generally a magical thing :)))) I used dental gel to treat stomatitis and inflamed wisdom teeth. I did not know that there is a simple preparation for external use, I will consider it on occasion)
