Emla Cream Review

Each person has a certain limit, called the pain threshold, above which pain is felt. It can be low, medium and high. Some do not feel discomfort with a normal injection or a small cut, for others it is terribly unpleasant. Therefore, even cosmetic procedures involve the use of painkillers.
Emla cream is one of these drugs that is needed to reduce pain on the skin and mucous membranes. Prilocaine, lidocaine, which are part of the cream, penetrating into the skin layer produce an anesthetic effect. The degree and duration of anesthesia depend on the dosage. The effect can be felt within an hour after application. When treating mucous membranes and genitals with Emla's cream, the process is accelerated due to faster absorption.

Release form and composition

If you follow the instructions, Emla cream is a white cream, 5 g in tubes. The package contains five such containers and twelve patches (therapeutic systems), consisting of protective paper and the treating substance itself. It is used to treat the surface of the skin outside.
Both the cream and the therapeutic system contain in equal parts the two main active substances: lidocaine and prilocaine. Per 1 gram, their proportion is 25 milligrams. Also included are auxiliary components: macrogol glyceryl hydroxystearate, sodium hydroxide, to increase the pH level, carbomer and purified water.
Emla cream is included in the register of medicines (radar), which confirms its safety.

Indications for use

Emla's preparation is used as a superficial anesthetic for various injections and surgical operations with a shallow intervention.
Also it is used:
    As an anesthetic for punctures;
    When catheterization of blood vessels;
    Removal of condylo;
    As additional anesthesia during the surgical treatment of trophic ulcers, in particular, disposal of pus, fibrin and dead tissue;
    As a superficial anesthesia in the treatment of genital organs before the manipulation, as a result of which the pain is felt;
    During the procedure of taking blood samples from the heel.
The effectiveness of the drug has been confirmed during the procedures used in cosmetology:
    Epilation is performed, unnecessary tattoos are removed, scars are corrected after surgery;
    Reduce wrinkles in the nasolabial areas, remove wrinkles or reduce their intensity;
    Before an invasive injection procedure is performed with the superficial administration of a special medication;
    Botox and similar drugs are administered;
    Disposed of asterisks in the vessels.
If you are unsure of the security or the subsequent effect, it is better to consult a specialist.

Instructions for use

Emla cream must be taken only by the external method. The product should not be applied in areas close to the ears and eyes.
Only a specialist determines the dosage of the drug to improve the analgesic effect. It is different, and depends on the type and severity of the disease, as well as men and women use in different doses. Main uses:
    When conducting external operations, it is recommended to apply a large amount of cream using a bandage and an occlusive sticker for 60 minutes;
    Smear means under the bandage with a shallow surgery. Duration of action is about 5 hours;
    When trophic ulcers are anesthetized, the cream is placed on a thick layer on the ulcer surface, about 3 grams per affected area and held for about half an hour;
    Reducing pain when manipulating the genitals, involves the use of 4 grams of cream. Action time is half an hour for a female, and 60 minutes for a male;
    Using Emla cream for children, its dosage depends on the area of the affected surface. The duration of anesthesia for infants is 1 hour, more adult to five hours.
If the cream was applied incorrectly, you may experience an overdose effect. This is due to an overabundance of active substances and subsequent intoxication of the body. At the same time, the nervous system can be inhibited and cardiac activity is disturbed. Then you need to stop using the medicine for a while, and depending on the symptoms, treat it.
In cosmetology Emla cream in most cases is used for epilation in intimate and other sensitive areas. This is the most common procedure. The substance is applied in a large layer, then wait about an hour for the drug to act. If skin exposure occurs over a large area, you may need several tubes at the same time. Women are very pleased with this tool, as other similar tools do not achieve this effect.
General application:
    You need to make a hole in the membrane of the tube, select the right amount of cream and apply on the affected area;
    Take an occlusal sticker and expose the center;
    Then release the reverse side of the dressing from the paper lining;
    The cream should be covered with a therapeutic agent so that the layer does not stand out beyond the contours of the dressing;
    It is necessary to record the time when the drug was applied;
    After the procedure, you can remove the bandage and clean the surface from the medication.

Contraindications and side effects

As with virtually all drugs, Emla has some contraindications:
    Not recommended for people with high sensitivity to local anesthetics or the main active substances funds;

    Individual glucose intolerance;
    No need to use cream around the eyes, with atopic dermatitis and other skin features;
