Pharmacodynamics
Mebeverin, being a myotropic antispasmodic, directly affects the smooth muscles of the gastrointestinal tract (gastrointestinal tract), mainly the large intestine; eliminates spasms without disturbing normal intestinal motility, and has no anticholinergic effect.
Pharmacokinetics
When administered orally, mebeverin undergoes presystemic elimination by hydrolysis, as a result of which it is not detected in plasma. Metabolism of the substance occurs in the liver to the formation of mebeverine alcohol and veratric acid. Mebeverin is excreted in the form of metabolites mainly by the kidneys, in small quantities with bile through the liver. Due to the presence of a prolonged-release mechanism in the Spareks capsules, significant cumulation of the drug is not observed even after repeated administration.
