Description Motilak

Motilak medicine refers to the regulators of the motor function of the gastrointestinal tract, this drug is produced by the Russian company Veropharm, costs 320 rubles for 30 tablets. The active substance is domperidone (10 mg), additional components of the composition are as follows:
    starch;
    silicon dioxide;
    hydroxypropyl cellulose;
    talc, etc.
Domperidone is a modern prokinetics, an antagonist of dopamine receptors in the brain. In action, it is close to metoclopramide, but the difference is in its greater safety. Domperidone does not cross the blood-brain barrier, therefore it practically does not provoke extrapyramidal disorders.
    The drug also has negative qualities - it enhances the production of prolactin by the pituitary gland, which causes a number of side effects.
As a dopamine antagonist, the substance has antiemetic properties. When taken orally, the duration of contractions of the antrum and duodenum increases. Due to the accelerated rate of peristalsis, the stomach empties faster, while the pressure of the esophagus sphincter increases. This reduces the likelihood of throwing the contents of the stomach into the esophagus, and prevents heartburn. Domperidone does not affect the secretion of hydrochloric acid.

Drug indications

Motilak helps against various symptoms that are caused by reflux esophagitis, GREB (gastroesophageal reflux disease), as well as delayed motility of the upper gastrointestinal tract. It is used from such signs:
    nausea and vomiting;
    a feeling of fullness in the stomach, abdomen;
    bloating;
    pain in the stomach;
    heartburn (burning in the throat);
    reflux of gastric fluid up;
    belching;
    bitterness in the mouth.
Especially often, the drug is recommended to drink with nausea, which occurs for any reason - against the background of infections, after poisoning, taking a number of drugs, and chemotherapy. The medicine can be taken for functional and organic diseases, including Parkinson's disease, if treated with dopamine agonists that provoke nausea.

Motilak contraindications

The medicine can be drunk by children, but only from 5 years. Until this age, you should choose a different way to relieve unpleasant symptoms (it is usually recommended to consume analogues in suspension or dissolve, chew special forms of tablets). The use of Motilak is also prohibited for intolerance to domperidone and allergies to auxiliary components.
    It is strictly forbidden to treat Motilak with gastrointestinal bleeding or suspected such conditions.
Contraindications include the presence of prolactinoma - a pituitary tumor that provokes the production of prolactin. If the patient has diseases in which stimulation of gastrointestinal motility will be harmful, Motilak should also not be drunk (for example, perforation of the stomach, mechanical gastrointestinal obstruction). Other contraindications:
liver diseases causing serious dysfunction of this organ;
advanced stage renal failure.
When the weight of an adult patient is less than 35 kg, taking the medicine with caution, under the supervision of a doctor. There is no data on the appearance of malformations in the fetus if Motilak is administered to a pregnant woman. But the drug is prescribed during pregnancy only if the expected benefit is higher than the risk. With lactation, treatment should be carried out with caution, while transferring the child to artificial feeding. This is due to the penetration of domperidone into breast milk in a small amount, which with an unknown degree of probability can adversely affect the baby.

Drug instruction

The dosage and how long it takes to take the drug is determined depending on the age of the patient and the type of disease.
Typically, Motilak is prescribed 1 tablet (10 mg) three times / day, the medicine is distributed throughout the day at approximately equal time intervals.
    If necessary, drink another, fourth Motilak tablet immediately before bedtime.
The dose of the drug can be doubled in severe cases of the disease, but only with the approval of the doctor and under his control (the risk of side effects increases). It is also permissible to drink 2 tablets at a time in acute diseases, severe vomiting and nausea. For children from 5 years old, the dose is calculated as follows: 2.5 mg of the drug for every 10 kg of the patient's weight, this norm is taken three times / day.
In severe cases, the dosage for the child will be 5 mg / 10 kg up to 4 times a day (the last time - before bedtime). With renal failure, the number of doses is 1-2 per day for 1 tablet. It is better to drink the medicine before meals. However, taking a pill after meals is also possible, but absorption will decrease. With a long course, it is better to consume the drug 15-30 minutes before eating. The course is up to 28 days, in severe cases, the doctor can extend it.
