Fibralax is a herbal laxative.

Release form and composition

Fibralax is produced in the form of a powder for the preparation of a suspension for oral administration: fragile pieces of oval plantain seed shell of various shapes with brown inclusions of other parts of the seed and auxiliary components, from light brown to yellowish-white, the smell of orange, intensifies when the powder is rubbed (by 5 g in sachets made of combined material, in a carton box 15, 20 or 30 sachets).
1 sachet contains:
    active substance: oval plantain seed shell - 3.53 g;
    auxiliary components: aspartame, maltodextrin, sucrose, sodium acetate, sodium alginate, natural orange flavor, citric acid monohydrate.

Pharmacodynamics

Fibralax is a phytopreparation laxative. Its mechanism of action is based on the property of hydrophilic fibers contained in the shell of oval plantain seeds, to increase in volume upon absorption of water. This causes a reflex increase in the motility of the large intestine and the restoration of its normal activity. After ingestion of a solution of the powder, a fraction in the form of a gel is formed, which helps to soften the feces and, enveloping the intestinal walls, facilitates defecation with constipation or painful bowel movement in patients with perianal lesions.

Indications for use

    acute and chronic forms of constipation;
    hemorrhoids;
    anal fissures;
    the period after surgery in the anorectal region - to create a softer stool consistency.

Contraindications

    intestinal obstruction;
    narrowing of the gastrointestinal tract of organic genesis;
    abdominal pain of unknown etiology;
    deficiency of sucrase-isomaltase;
    glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome;
    fructose intolerance;
    decompensated diabetes mellitus;
    phenylketonuria;
    age up to 18 years;
    individual intolerance to the components of the drug.

Instructions for the use of Fibralax: method and dosage

Ready Fibralax suspension is taken orally 0.5 hours before or 2 hours after meals.
To prepare the suspension, pour the contents of 1 sachet into a glass, pour 200 ml of cold water, stir thoroughly and drink immediately. The drug should be taken with another glass of liquid.
Recommended dosage: 1 sachet 1-3 times a day.
Duration of treatment:
    acute constipation: 1-2 days (until constipation disappears);
    chronic constipation: 28 days, then a 7-day break should be taken, after which the course can be resumed;
    anal fissures, hemorrhoids: until a comfortable bowel movement is achieved - up to 28 days, then, if necessary, you can repeat the course after a 7-day break;
    period after surgery in the anorectal region: prescribed by the doctor individually (up to 28 days).

Side effects

While taking Fibralax, allergic reactions may develop, in the first days of treatment - a feeling of fullness in the abdomen.

Overdose

Overdose symptoms have not been established.

Special instructions

During the period of Fibralax application, the patient must drink a large amount of liquid during the day, at least 1.5 liters.
Failure to follow the recommendations for taking the drug associated with the required amount of fluid drunk, there is a risk of irritation of the esophagus and / or intestines, especially in elderly patients.
Patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus should agree to take the drug with a doctor, as it may be necessary to consider reducing the dose of insulin.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and complex mechanisms

According to the instructions, Fibralax does not affect the patient's ability to drive various vehicles or mechanisms.

Application during pregnancy and lactation

The use of Fibralax during gestation and during breastfeeding is possible only as directed by a doctor.

Childhood use

The use of the drug for the treatment of children under the age of 18 is contraindicated.

Drug interactions

The simultaneous use of a laxative drug with antidiarrheal and depressing intestinal motility agents is not recommended.
Fibralax can slow down the absorption of concurrently used drugs, therefore, if it is necessary to prescribe concomitant therapy, the interval between taking the powder and other drugs should be 0.5–1 hour.
