Dosage form and biochemical composition

Polydexa with phenylephrine nasal spray, which is available in 15 ml opaque plastic bottles. For convenient spraying of drug suspension, the vial is equipped with a plastic dispenser with a screw-on top cap. The composition of a transparent solution includes such components:
    neomycin;
    phenylephrine;
    dexamethasone;
    polymyxin B;
    preservative E218;
    lithium chloride;
    macrogol;
    ethoxylated sorbitans;
    3-hydroxy-3-carboxypentanedioic acid.
In a light purple pack there is 1 bottle with a solution and instructions for use of the combined nasal preparation.

Pharmacological properties

A rhinological preparation is used in otolaryngology due to a wide spectrum of action. Pharmacological activity is due to the presence of 4 active ingredients in the composition of the medicinal solution:
    dexamethasone is a glucocorticosteroid that has desensitizing, antiflogistic and antiallergic activity;
    inhibits the biosynthesis of arachidonic acid and inhibits the production of inflammatory mediators, resulting in stabilization of cell membranes;
    phenylephrine alpha-adrenomimetic vasoconstrictor, which reduces swelling in the mucous membrane of the nasopharynx and thereby normalizes nasal breathing;
    neomycin aminoglycoside antibacterial drug that has a bactericidal effect on hemophilic and pseudomonas infection;
    polymyxin B is an antimicrobial agent with a bactericidal effect, which is active against several types of gram-positive microbes: E. coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Pfifer's stick, etc.
Timely use of the combined agent leads to a regression of most inflammatory processes in the nasopharynx caused by gram-negative and gram-positive microorganisms.

Indications

Polydexa with phenylephrine is used as part of local or combined pharmacotherapy of infectious respiratory diseases. Indications for its appointment are:
    infectious rhinitis;
    maxillitis;
    ethmoiditis;
    tubootitis;
    acute rhinopharyngitis;
    chronic epipharyngitis;
    sphenoiditis;
    frontal sinusitis.
A rhinological medication can be used in the treatment of allergic rhinitis as a decongestant and anti-inflammatory agent. The alpha-adrenoblocker included in its composition has pronounced vasoconstrictor properties, therefore it is used to prevent rhinosinusitis with the accumulation of infected exudate in the paranasal sinuses.

Dosage regimen

Polydexa with phenylephrine is used in the treatment of septic inflammation of the nasopharynx in adults and children from 6 years. The dosage is determined by the severity of the disease and the age of the patient:
    adults with 2 injections (in each nasal passage) up to 5 times a day;
    children from 15 years old by 1 injection 3 times a day;
    children under 15 years of age by 1 injection 1-2 times a day.
When using an aerosol product, keep the bottle upright. After spraying, it is recommended to take a slow breath so that Polydexa with phenylephrine suspension penetrates not only into the nasal passages, but also into the sinuses. The duration of pharmacotherapy with a combined agent should not exceed 5 consecutive days.

Special instructions for Polydexa with phenylephrine

A rhinological preparation is used exclusively to eliminate rhinorrhea and its accompanying symptoms. Prolonged use of a vasoconstrictor aerosol can lead to rebound syndrome and iatrogenic rhinitis. Frequent inhalation is accompanied by the absorption of active substances and the occurrence of undesirable systemic effects in the form of increased blood pressure, skin allergies, etc.
Due to the presence of glucocorticosteroids and alpha-adrenostimulants in the composition, with caution, it is necessary to use the medicine for people suffering from hypertension, tachycardia and other cardiac diseases. If any neurological symptoms appear, you need to abandon the use of an aerosol agent.

Alcohol compatibility

Alcohol consumption does not affect the therapeutic activity of the components of the combined medication.

Gestation and lactation

Polydexa with phenylephrine is not used during gestation and breastfeeding, due to the toxic effect of glucocorticosteroid substances on the development of the fetus, as well as their ability to be excreted together with breast milk.

Drug Interactions

It is strongly not recommended to combine Polydexa with phenylephrine preparation with indirect alpha sympathomimetics, as well as MAO inhibitors. The mentioned drugs increase blood pressure, which can lead to impaired cerebral circulation against the background of vasoconstriction under the action of a nasal aerosol.
Among the medicines that should not be used when using rhinological agents include:
    Acetylsalicylic acid;
    Guanethidine;
    Moxifloxacin;
    Praziquantel;
    Amphotericin B;
    Levofloxacin;
    Aminoglutethimide;
    Gatifloxacin.
With caution, you need to take Polydexa with phenylephrine that provoke the development of polymorphic ventricular tachycardia and hypokalemia. Therefore, before using any over-the-counter medications, you should consult your doctor.

Overdose

In the case of prolonged or too frequent use of a vasoconstrictor drug, the following undesirable effects may occur:
    decrease in body temperature;
    increase in blood pressure;
    painful heart palpitations;
    nausea and vomiting;
    impaired consciousness.
Due to dysfunction of the central nervous system, the development of respiratory failure is not ruled out against the background of inhibition of the activity of the corresponding centers in the brain. Strong blanching of the skin, shallow breathing and mydriasis are the basis for calling the ambulance team at home.

Side effects

In rare cases, Polydexa with phenylephrine causes local and systemic adverse reactions in patients due to the presence of a sympathomimetic, antibiotic and GCS:
    increased heart rate;
    exacerbation of angle-closure glaucoma;
    dehydration of the oral mucosa;
    hallucinations;
    gagging;
    dizziness;
    overexcitation;
    insomnia;
    fever;
    urinary retention;
    hypertensive crisis.
It is possible that hemorrhagic stroke may develop in patients who have previously used drugs that include pseudoephedrine. Exacerbation of side effects is the basis for refusing local therapy.

Contraindications

A rhinological preparation is not used with hypersensitivity to glucocorticosteroids and other active components. Contraindications to the appointment of a nasal aerosol are:
    a history of myocardial infarction;
    uncontrolled hypertension;
    urethro-prostatic diseases;
    history of convulsions;
    coronary insufficiency.
With caution, sympathomimetics should be used for angle-closure glaucoma and heart failure.

Reviews

Reviews about Polydexa with phenylephrine are mostly positive. Patients indicate a quick action and effectiveness of the drug in the treatment of complicated (protracted, with heavy dense secretions of green or yellow) runny nose, bilateral sinusitis. Many people like the form of release, note the ease of use.

Storage conditions

Polydexa with phenylephrine is stored no more than 3 years in a ventilated place at temperatures up to 26 degrees Celsius.
