Instruction for Nasic Kids

You can buy Nasic Kids here

Vasoconstrictors are in high demand in the season of acute respiratory viral infections and colds, as they quickly eliminate nasal congestion and reduce the number of secretions during a cold. One of these drugs is the German drug "Nasic", in the composition of which a second active substance is added to the vasoconstrictor component, which helps to reduce the inflammatory process and restore the mucous membrane.
For the smallest patients, they release "Nasic for Children", which is also called "Nasic Kids." This medicine is intended for the treatment of children aged two to six years. If the child is already 6 years old, he is prescribed a drug for adults, which is simply called "Nasic." Both medicines are in demand in the practice of ENT doctors and have proven themselves in the treatment of various types of rhinitis.

Dosage Forms and Composition

Both types of "Nasic" are presented only in the form of a nasal spray. This is a clear liquid without any shade, poured into 10 ml glass bottles. This volume of solution holds approximately 100 doses of spray. For dosing the drug in the box there is a separately packaged pump-action device, which is installed on the bottle at the beginning of treatment.
The only difference between children's medicine and the usual "Nasic Kids" is the amount of one of the active substances. We are talking about xylometazoline, which is in the form of hydrochloride in “Nasic for children” in the amount of 0.05 mg per dose, and each dose of the drug for adults contains it in the amount of 0.1 mg.
The second active ingredient is dexpanthenol. Its content in both types of medicine is the same - 5 mg in 1 dose. The auxiliary components in Nasic Kids and the more concentrated spray are also the same. These include potassium and sodium dihydrogen phosphate, as well as purified water and benzalkonium chloride.

Operating principle

Xylometazoline present in Nasic Kids has a local effect on the nasal mucosa, in particular, it affects adrenergic receptors, as a result of which the vessels narrow. Due to this effect, the nasal passages become passable for air, and breathing through the nose is restored. The effect of such a substance is manifested already a few minutes after spraying and lasts up to 8-10 hours.
The second active ingredient in the spray, dexpanthenol, is a derivative of one of the B vitamins (pantothenic acid) into which it is converted once it enters the body. This compound is important for various metabolic processes and helps to accelerate the regeneration of cells of the mucous membranes and skin.

Indications

Both types of "Nasic" are used for such diseases:
    SARS, if the disease occurs with rhinitis;
    sinusitis or another variant of sinusitis;
    rhinitis that occurs in response to allergens;
    otitis media (the drug is added to the treatment complex).
    Spray can also be used before rhinoscopy to facilitate the procedure. In addition, it is prescribed for patients who underwent surgery or some kind of medical manipulation in the nasal cavity in order to quickly restore nasal breathing.

Contraindications

“Nasik for children” is not prescribed if the patient has been diagnosed with glaucoma, tachycardia, porphyria or hyperthyroidism. Such a medicine is contraindicated in atrophic and dry rhinitis. In addition, the spray is not used for hypersensitivity to any of its components.
It also should not be used in children undergoing surgery on the shells of the brain, and in case of diabetes mellitus or pheochromocytoma, the doctor should control the treatment. The same contraindications are noted for the use of "Nasic" in children older than 6 years.

Side effects

During treatment with the spray, local negative symptoms may appear, for example, tingling or burning sensations in the nose, increased discharge from the nose, swelling of the mucous membrane or its redness. Usually, such a side effect is manifested with excessively frequent use, or when Nasic is used for longer than the period recommended by the doctor. In addition, an allergic reaction may occur to the spray.
In rare cases, a medication causes insomnia, visual impairment, tachycardia, headache, and other common symptoms. If they occur, you should discontinue use of Nasic Kids and consult your doctor.

How to use?

Having opened the medicine box, you need to free the dispensing device from the packaging, remove the lid from the bottle containing the solution, and screw the pump on the neck, then remove the cap from the device and press it several times so that the spray is sprayed in the air. After that, you can use "Nasic" as intended. The bottle should be kept upright during spraying.
According to the instructions for use, a child of 2–6 years of age is prescribed “Nasic Kids”, one injection into each nostril, and for a patient older than six years, “Nasic Kids” is prescribed for adults in the same single dose. During use, you should ask the baby to take a light breath with his nose. The frequency of spraying the drug per day is 3 or 4 times, and the duration of treatment depends on the indications and should be determined by the doctor.
    Most often, a children's spray is used for 5-7 days, and a more concentrated solution is sprayed for 3-5 days.

Overdose

If you use the medicine in too large a dose, or accidentally drink the contents of the bottle, nausea, fever, seizures, high blood pressure, vomiting, arrhythmia, and other dangerous symptoms may occur.
    In such a situation, emergency medical care is needed, and to prevent this from happening, it is important to keep the “Nasic Kids” in a place safely hidden from children.

Drug interaction

Treatment with “Nasic Kids” cannot be combined with the use of other vasoconstrictor drugs. Such a drug is also incompatible with tricyclic antidepressants and drugs that inhibit monoamine oxidase. With the simultaneous appointment with them or within two weeks after the termination of their use, a negative effect on the cardiovascular system is possible.

Storage Features

The shelf life of the sealed spray is 3 years, but after the first use it is reduced to 12 weeks from the date the bottle was opened. During this time, the medicine should be in a dry place at room temperature.

Reviews

The use of "Nasic Kids" in the treatment of the common cold as a symptom of diseases of the nasopharynx in children is mostly positive. Among the advantages of such a spray mention quick action, convenient packaging and affordable price. According to parents, the drug is tolerated normally, but in some small patients it still provokes undesirable side effects.
