Fervex for children instruction

You can buy Fervex for children on this page

When adults start a cold or SARS, they often use effective multicomponent drugs, for example, Fervex, to combat the symptoms of such diseases. Such a medication contains a combination of an antipyretic substance (500 mg of paracetamol), vitamin C and an antihistamine. Thanks to these components, the drug helps to get rid of headache, fever, sneezing, nasal congestion and other uncomfortable symptoms.
However, small children cannot be given the usual “Fervex”, because the dosages of the active compounds in such portioned packets are designed for people over 15 years old. For younger patients, “Fervex for children” is released. The main difference between such a drug and an adult medicine is the amount of each of the active ingredients.

Release form

“Fervex for children” is represented by sachets, inside of which there are 3 grams of light yellow powder. The drug is sold in boxes of 6 or 8 sachets. After mixing the powder with water, a yellow solution with a banana flavor is obtained.

Composition

The action of “Fervex for children” is provided by three active ingredients:
    paracetamol in an amount of 280 mg in each sachet;
    ascorbic acid, which in one package is 100 mg;
    pheniramine maleate, the dosage of which in 1 sachet is 10 mg.
Additionally, Fervex for children has anhydrous trimagnesium dicitrate and riboflavin in the form of sodium phosphate. For a sweet taste, aspartame and sucrose are added to the medication, and the pleasant smell of the finished solution is provided by a banana-caramel flavor.

Operating principle

The therapeutic effects of “Fervex for children” are due to the drugs included in its composition.
    Paracetamol, which is a group of anti-inflammatory non-steroidal agents, has the property of affecting cyclooxygenases in the tissues of the central nervous system. Through exposure to these enzymes, paracetamol affects the centers of thermoregulation and pain, which explains the antipyretic and analgesic effect of this component of Fervex.
    Pheniramine is a receptor blocker for an active compound called histamine. Due to this action, such a powder ingredient helps to eliminate swelling and redness of the mucous membrane in the nasopharynx, as well as in the sinuses.
    The presence of vitamin C in the medicine helps to increase the body's resistance to infection and other provoking factors. This component is very important for reducing as well as oxidizing processes. In addition, under the action of ascorbic acid, the permeability of the vascular walls decreases.

Indications

The children's version of Fervex, as well as the drug for adults, is used as a short-term symptomatic remedy for rhinitis, nasopharyngitis, acute respiratory viral infections, influenza and other acute respiratory diseases, manifestations of which are moderate headaches, nasal discharge, fever, weakness, aching in the muscles and so on.

At what age prescribed?

According to the annotation to the drug, “Fervex for children” is intended for the treatment of patients aged six to fifteen years. For children under 6 years of age, such a remedy is not prescribed, since the doses of the active compounds in a portioned packet are not designed for an early age.
    For adolescents over 15 years of age, the dosage of ingredients in one bag will not be enough, so they are switching to taking “Fervex” for adults.

Contraindications

Fervex for children is not used in children with:
    blood diseases
    severe kidney pathologies;
    severe liver damage;
    lack of glucose-6 phosphate dehydrogenase;
    hypersensitivity to paracetamol or any other component of the powder.
    If a child has diabetes mellitus, the use of Fervex requires caution, since the amount of sucrose in one sachet must be taken into account.

Side effects

The components of Fervex for children can adversely affect the digestive system, which is manifested by dry mouth, constipation, abdominal pain, nausea, and other symptoms. In some patients, “Fervex” provokes drowsiness, anemia, thrombocytopenia, and urinary retention. In addition, the medication can cause a skin rash, Quincke's edema, or other allergic reaction.

Application

According to the instructions, the contents of one sachet should be combined with 200 milliliters of water. To prepare the solution, it is recommended to use warm boiled water. The tool is used for a short time - no longer than five days.
    If after 3 days of treatment the body temperature remains elevated, and after a 5-day intake of pain persists, the child should be shown to the doctor.
A single dose of children's “Fervex” for a patient of any age is one sachet. In this case, a child of 6-10 years of age can be given medication no more than twice during the day. If the child is 10-12 years old, let’s say three times a day, and at 12-15 years of age the drug can be drunk four times a day. There should be an interval of at least 4 hours between taking the medicine.

Overdose

If you give the child a drug in a larger dose, it will cause pallor of the skin, abdominal pain, drowsiness, nausea, and other negative symptoms. In addition, an overdose of the medicine or too long treatment with “Fervex for children” has a harmful effect on blood formation (provokes hemolysis or aplastic anemia), kidney function and liver condition.

Drug interaction

Fervex for children should not be given to children who are already taking paracetamol or any means with paracetamol. Due to the presence of pheniramine in the composition of the powder, it increases the effectiveness of sedatives, and while taking antipsychotic drugs increases the risk of their side effects. The combination of Fervex with barbiturates, rifampicin, antidepressants and some other drugs enhances the hepatotoxic effect of the powder.
If you prescribe a medication along with salicylates, this will increase the risk of kidney damage. You should not combine "Fervex" and chloramphenicol, as the toxicity of this antibiotic will increase. Due to the presence of paracetamol, the powder is able to increase the effect of anticoagulants and reduce the effectiveness of uricosuric agents.

Terms storage

Store the medicine at home is advised at room temperature until the end of the shelf life of 3 years.
    Packages should be kept in a dry place where a small child will not find them.

Reviews

In most cases, the use of “Fervex for Children” is positive, confirming that this drug helps to quickly eliminate the symptoms of the common cold. Most patients like the taste of the medicine, and the mom’s release form is called quite convenient.
The disadvantages of the medication include only that it is a symptomatic remedy and it does not affect the cause of the disease. If given at the height of the disease, the effect may be too weak. In addition, in some children, “Fervex” causes side effects, such as nausea.
