Composition and form of release

Drops are packaged in opaque plastic bottles with a 10 ml dispenser nozzle, packed in a cardboard box. Each contains an application manual. The manufacturer of Bactavit is the Romanian company Rompharm.
Form - solution, consistency - liquid, color - colorless transparent, or slightly yellowish. The active ingredient is picloxidine dihydrochloride 0.5 mg (this corresponds to the content of 434 mg picloxidine in the preparation). Excipients: polysorbate, anhydrous dextrose (glucose), purified water.

Action Bactavit

The active substance picloxidine (a derivative of biguanides) is an antiseptic with pronounced antimicrobial properties. It is most active against: Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Shigella dysenteriae, Streptococcus faecalis,, Eberthella typhosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, and, selectively, some fungi and viruses. Bactavit inhibits activity
Chlamydia trachomatis, which is resistant to many antibacterial agents. Used as a monopreparation or introduced into a therapeutic regimen.
It is not detected in the systemic circulation, since when used in the recommended dosages it is not detected in the blood plasma.

Indications and contraindications

It is used to eliminate inflammation of the anterior ocular regions - conjunctivitis, keratoconjunctivitis and dacryocystitis of various etiologies, including those provoked by the introduction of chlamydia, to prevent complications before surgery on the organs of vision, or after it. It is used to treat newborns from the first hours after appearance.

Contraindications

For subconjunctival injections, the drug is not used. Individual intolerance may develop on the drug. Symptoms of an allergic reaction are itching, severe irritation, a burning sensation that does not go away within 15 minutes. In this case, it is necessary to notify the attending physician, they do not carry out replacement on their own.

Side effects and overdose

There are no data on overdose with Bactavit, the effect on the body during pregnancy and breastfeeding has not been studied, therefore the drug is prescribed only when the benefits to the mother outweigh the possible harm to the developing organism. Short-term irritation, lacrimation, photophobia, itching and rashes on the eyelids that disappear within 10 minutes after administration are not a reason for stopping treatment.

Applications and dosage

Before starting manipulations, you must wash your hands. The bottle should be held so that the tip does not touch the sclera. Newborns are laid on their backs, slightly turning their heads to the side; for adult patients, it is enough to tilt the head.
During treatment:
    infectious inflammatory processes in the conjunctival sac 1 drop is administered, the frequency is 2-6 times a day;
    for the prevention of infection in the postoperative period - in the same dosage 3-4 times a day;
    as a preparation before surgery - 1 drop just before manipulations.
The doctor can extend the therapy course for more than 10 days. In children of the first year of life and the elderly with a burdened history, correction of the therapeutic regimen is not required. When applied together with other eye drops, you need to make an interval of 15 minutes so that the solution has time to be absorbed.

Special instructions

To exclude the absorption of Bactavit into the systemic circulation and accelerate the distribution over the surface of the eye, after instillation, it is advisable to make a chiseled massage - it is easy to press the inner corner with your fingertips several times. (Children are massaged by parents).
People who wear contact lenses are advised to remove them before injecting the solution. The drug does not change the color of contact lenses (including soft hydrophilic ones), but they can increase side effects and provoke the development of an allergic reaction. In addition, it is not advisable to wear lenses in case of infectious inflammatory processes.
After the eyes drip, the gaze is momentarily clouded. If you have to work with equipment or drive a car, you need to wait 15 minutes after manipulations until vision is fully restored.
If the bottle was kept in the refrigerator after opening before injecting the solution, it should be heated in the palm of your hand to body temperature. When sediment falls, you need to purchase a new vial.
