During pregnancy, the dose of the drug depends on the timing of gestation. In the following trimesters (in the second and third) the course can be increased to 10–12 days, also 1 suppository per day.
Since the drug is able to penetrate, metronidazole suppositories is contraindicated in pregnancy, but it is sometimes prescribed at the end of the first trimester for life-saving indications. Also, the drug penetrates into breast milk, so if you want to use it during lactation, you should certainly stop breastfeeding.

Side effects

The use of suppositories with Metronidazole can cause some adverse reactions to the lymphatic and circulatory system:
When hypersensitivity can occur skin rash, itching, urticaria, skin redness, anaphylactic shock (extremely rare).
The urogenital system is able to respond to the drug by changing the brown-red color of the urine, after prolonged use, it is sometimes possible to develop fungal microflora in the vagina, which requires the prescription of the simultaneous use of antifungal drugs.
The nervous system is able to respond to the active substance by such side effects as headache and slight dizziness, convulsions, encephalopathy, cerebellar syndrome (tremor, dysarthria, ataxia, nystagmus, gait disturbance). Cases of peripheral neuropathy, mental disorder (hallucinations) are quite rare.

Composition and pharmacokinetics

suppositories are produced in two concentrations of the presence of the active substance:
    250 mg Metronidazole in 1 suppositories;
500 mg Metronidazole in 1 suppository.
Suppositories are torpedo-shaped. Visually, this substance is white or with a slight yellowish tint.
Pharmacokinetics with vaginal suppositories are as follows. The active ingredient of the drug is absorbed partially, and in the minimum required amount. The proportion of assimilable Metronidazole for vaginal use does not exceed 20% compared with the situation when tablets are used. The organs of excretion remove approximately one fifth of the absorbed dose from the body.

The main causes and manifestations of fungal diseases

The cause of the disease is considered to be depressed immunity, and in many cases, non-compliance with basic hygiene rules.
The fungus multiplies with changes that occur in the body. Due to the favorable environment and the absence of normal microflora that resist harmful bacteria, fungi and viruses multiply.
In pregnancy, in many cases, women notice the appearance of thrush. This is primarily due to the changes that occur in the body, it is rebuilt, preparing for the birth of a child.
In particular, there are the following changes:
    Hormonal changes,
    Exacerbation of chronic disease
Violation of the acid-base balance on the vaginal mucosa,
If symptoms of the disease appear, you should immediately consult a doctor. We are talking about such characteristic symptoms:
    Itching in the genital area,
    Increased secretion secretion
Lowering the overall tone of the body,
    Painful urination.
It is not recommended to independently carry out therapy, since it is not reliably established that the symptoms belong to thrush and not to another infectious disease.

Reviews

I am very pleased with the result obtained from the use of suppositories with Metronidazole. They helped me a lot, they are inexpensive, they heal quickly. What particularly liked is the clear summary.

Svetlana Alexandrovna, Petrozavodsk

Treated vaginitis with Metronidazole suppositories; the course of treatment was, as recommended in the annotation attached to the preparation, 14 days, 1 suppository per night. Noticed the effect in the first week. I began to notice significantly less discharge, pain decreased, burning sensations ceased and redness disappeared.

Ekaterina Andreevna, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky

After the first birth, thrush and bacterial vaginitis had to be treated several times. I used expensive drugs, but only suppositories with Metronidazole really helped. She took suppositories with pills at the same time to achieve a greater effect. The course of treatment lasted ten days. Three days later, the unpleasant smell disappeared, by the end of the course everything was restored as it should.
