Composition and release form

Clindamycin comes in the form of solution for injection and capsules for oral administration. In addition, there are forms of release of the drug for external use: cream, gel and suppositories.
    The active ingredient is clindamycin hydrochloride or clindamycin phosphate.
Clinico-pharmacological group: an antibiotic of the group of lincosamides.

Indications for use

Indications for use of Clindamycin in the form of capsules and solution for intravenous and intramuscular administration are infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by microorganisms sensitive to clindamycin:
    Chronic and acute osteomyelitis;
    Bacterial endocarditis;
    Septicemia (primarily anaerobic);
    Infections of the urogenital tract (vaginal infections, endometritis, chlamydia, tubo-ovarian inflammation);
    Infections of soft tissues and skin (boils, abscesses, felon, infected wounds), oral cavity and abdominal cavity (abscess, peritonitis);

According to the mechanism of action, chemical structure and antimicrobial spectrum reminds lincomycin. It has a bacteriostatic and bactericidal effect. The drug slows down or completely stops the synthesis of proteins that occurs in the cell.

    For severe infections and diseases of the abdominal cavity, Clindamycin is used as an injection in accordance with the instructions. In milder forms, 1.2-1.8 g is usually administered per day, and in severe forms, 2.4-2.7 g, divided into 2-4 doses, more than 600 mg of Clindamycin should not be administered simultaneously.
    Suppositories with clindamycin are used intravaginally in 1 pc. 1 per day. Use suppositories before bedtime, the course - 3-7 days. Before use, you must remove the protective film, enter deep into the vagina, it should be done in the prone position.
The instruction on the cream provides for its intravaginal use. It is best to apply the remedy at bedtime, for 3-7 days.

Contraindications

Contraindications to the use of the drug in the form of capsules and solution for injection are also:
    Bronchial asthma;
    Myasthenia gravis;
    Ulcerative colitis (in history);
    Hypersensitivity to components of Clindamycin.
    Pregnancy and lactation;
    Children's age up to 3 years - for a solution for IV and IM injection (due to the lack of safety data on the use of benzyl alcohol);
    Children's age up to 8 years for capsules (average weight of a child is less than 25 kg);
    Rare hereditary diseases: galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or glucose-galactose malabsorption (for capsules).

Side effects

Pseudomembranous colitis may develop during drug administration and after several weeks after completion of treatment. Symptoms of this condition are bowel dysfunction, leukocytosis, severe pain in the abdomen, the development of fever.
