Pharmacological properties

The drug Lozap got its name thanks to the active substance - losartan. This agent belongs to the group of type II angiotensive receptor antagonists used in the treatment of arterial hypertension. A feature of the action of losartan is the absence of an effect on the enzyme kinase II, which is a catalyst for the transformation of type I angiotensin into type II angiotensin. This drug is classified as a prodrug, since the active substance is a carboxylic acid metabolite, which is synthesized in the process of biotransformation reactions and it is he who has an antihypertensive effect. Given that Lozap is available in tablet form, the only route of consumption is oral. After ingestion, the maximum concentration of the active component in the blood is detected after 60 minutes, while its active metabolite acquires the greatest value after 4 hours. The period of elimination of carboxylic acid lasts 2 times longer (up to 8 hours) than losartan (about 3-4 hours). The pronounced hypotensive effect is noticeable after 21-30 days from the beginning of the therapeutic course.

Composition and form of release

The drug is available in the form of tablets with various dosages: • 12.5 mg No. 30, No. 60, No. 90; • 50 mg No. 30, No. 60, No. 90; • 100 mg No. 30, No. 60, No. 90. It is worth noting that Lozap Plus is also produced, which is an antihypertensive drug, but differs in composition from the previous drug. Lozap Plus combines lozaptan with hydrochlorothiazide, due to which the therapeutic effect occurs several times faster. The binders used are: cellulose, hypromellose, magnesium stearate, povidone, macrogol, dimethicone, dyes. The method and peculiarities of taking the drug by the patient are determined by the attending physician, based on the results of the laboratory tests obtained.
