H1-histamine receptor blocker (long-acting). Suppresses the release of histamine and leukotriene C4 from mast cells. Prevents the development and facilitates the course of allergic reactions.
It has anti-allergic, antipruritic, anti-exudative action. Reduces capillary permeability, prevents the development of tissue edema, relieves spasms of smooth muscles.
After taking Loratadine, the antiallergic effect develops after 30 minutes, reaches a maximum after 8-12 hours and lasts 24 hours. It does not affect the central nervous system and does not cause addiction (does not penetrate through the BBB).
The maximum serum concentration is fixed after 1.5-2.5 hours (food intake slows down this process by about 1 hour). The level of conjugation with blood proteins reaches 97%. The process of biotransformation occurs in the liver. The average half-life of an unchanged substance is from 3 to 20 hours, and the active metabolite, descarboethoxyloratadine, is from 9 to 92 hours.
During the period of use of the drug, care must be taken when driving vehicles and engaging in other potentially hazardous activities that require increased concentration and psychomotor speed.

What do the reviews say?

According to reviews of doctors, Loratadine is one of the most popular antiallergic drugs of the 2nd generation. Compared with some analogues, it is cheap and is characterized by a significantly higher antihistamine activity, which is due to the higher strength of binding to peripheral receptors related to H1-type.
Experts say that the drug does not show a sedative effect, does not have a cardiotoxic effect, does not enhance the effect of ethyl alcohol, practically does not interact with other drugs and does not cause addiction.
Many adults after using Loratadine consider it an effective and affordable drug with a mild and prolonged action. It is also very convenient to use in both adults and children.
