Coltsfoot is a flower endowed with healing properties by nature. This plant is widely used in medicine.
The composition of the leaves of coltsfoot includes mucus, which has an enveloping effect and protects the mucous membranes of the larynx, throat and mouth from irritation. Organic acids and saponins contained in the leaves of coltsfoot contribute to the dilution of sputum and its effective removal.

Indications for use

Apply coltsfoot, usually in the form of a decoction or infusion. Use for cough caused by pleurisy, pulmonary tuberculosis, pneumonia and flu. This remedy is also effective for colds, inflammations in the mouth, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (including ulcers), diseases of the bladder, kidneys and heart, as well as to eliminate toothache.
Infusion and decoction are used externally for boils, skin diseases, erysipelas, ulcers, mastitis, burns, as well as to improve hair condition and get rid of dandruff.
Tea from this plant is effective in diathesis and body weakness.

Contraindications

Use coltsfoot is contraindicated in women during pregnancy and lactation, as well as in patients suffering from liver diseases and alcoholism.
Do not use coltsfoot for children under the age of two years and persons with individual intolerance to the substances that make up the plant.


Instructions for use

To prepare the infusion, one tablespoon of the raw material should be filled with 200 ml of hot boiled water, then heated in a water bath for fifteen minutes, and after 45 minutes, strain. Ready infusion can be used during the first two days. In this form, coltsfoot cough is effective as a means that facilitates the elimination of sputum. For this, the infusion should be taken at 0.5 tablespoons two to three times a day one hour before a meal.
To prepare a decoction of 5 g of raw materials, pour 200 ml of boiling water, boil for another ten to fifteen minutes, then strain. It is recommended to take a ready-made broth one tablespoon three to four times a day. Externally, you can use this tool in order to effectively eliminate dandruff and prevent hair loss.
In order to treat cough, you can give a decoction or infusion of coltsfoot to children. In addition, coltsfoot can be given to children in the form of steam inhalations with the addition of grass.
In the process of treating a cold, it is recommended to use healthy juice from the early leaves of coltsfoot. To prepare it, the leaves should be pre-washed, minced and squeezed. The resulting juice must be instilled in two or three drops in each nostril. For oral administration, juice in equal proportions should be diluted in water and boiled for two to three minutes. The diluted product can be taken one tablespoon three times a day. The duration of treatment on average is seven to ten days.
Coltsfoot flowers are used to make alcohol tinctures. To do this, they are poured with alcohol in equal proportions and insisted for a week in a dark place, protected from direct sunlight. Inside, the resulting tincture is taken 30-40 drops shortly before meals.

Side effects

Sufficiently long-term use of this plant can cause diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain and fever. For this reason, the recommended duration of treatment should not exceed two to three weeks.
