It is active against a large number of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms and has a bactericidal effect.
The clavulanic acid present in the tablet protects amoxicillin from the destructive destruction of beta-lactamase produced by microorganisms, thereby contributing to the expansion of the antibacterial properties of the drug. Thanks to this component, Augmentin can have a detrimental effect on pathogenic microorganisms that are highly resistant to the penicillin group of drugs and cephalosporins.

pharmachologic effect

Broad-spectrum antibiotic. It has a bacteriolytic (destroying bacteria) effect. It is active against a broad spectrum of aerobic (developing only in the presence of oxygen) and anaerobic (capable of existing in the absence of oxygen) gram-positive and aerobic literary microorganisms, including strains producing beta-lactamase (an enzyme that destroys penicillins).
Clavulanic acid, which is part of the preparation, ensures the stability of amoxicillin to the effects of beta-lactamase, expanding the range of its action.

Instructions for use

According to Augmentin's instructions for use, the dosage regimen is set individually depending on the age, body weight, renal function of the patient, as well as the severity of the infection. If necessary, it is possible to conduct stepwise therapy (at the beginning of therapy, parenteral administration of the drug with the subsequent transition to oral administration).
Adults and children over 12 years old or with a body weight of 40 kg or more. 1 tablet 250 mg / 125 mg 3 times / day (for mild to moderate infections), or 1 tablet 500 mg / 125 mg 3 times / day, or 1 tablet 875 mg / 125 mg 2 times / day, or 11 ml of suspension 400 mg / 57 mg / 5 ml 2 times / day (equivalent to 1 tablet 875 mg / 125 mg).
Two tablets of 250 mg / 125 mg are not equivalent to one tablet of 500 mg / 125 mg.

Calculation of the dose produced depending on age and body weight, indicate in mg / kg body weight / day (calculation of amoxicillin) or in ml of suspension.

The minimum course of antibiotic therapy is 5 days. Treatment should not last more than 14 days without a review of the clinical situation. For optimal absorption and reduction of possible side effects from the digestive system, Augmentin is recommended to be taken at the beginning of a meal.

Reviews

Anna
The first time this drug (augmentin) was prescribed to us was 4 years old. There was fever, cough, runny nose. On the second day of reception, it became much better. Now, we always recommend it with a strong cold. The effect is instant, on the second, third day. It is only necessary to take either hilak forte or bifidumbacterin with it, so that there are no problems with the work of the intestine.
Tanya
As popular wisdom says, if you treat a runny nose, it goes away in 7 days. We had such a story, but only with a complication. The child had a runny nose, but there was no fever, no cough, no headache. I thought it was a cold that was soon to pass. But something happened that was not expected: a simple mild runny nose turned into sinusitis. I had to go to the doctor. He wrote us Augmentin suspension. Signs of improvement appeared only after 3 days of admission. But after 7 days the boy was healthy. True, then another month restored the intestinal microflora. But, we can say, cost a little fright.
